I only went to three movies last year nominated for anything...

The Substance

All three were really good! Very satisfied customer!

But my oh my there's a lot of films I'd never even heard about out there.

I, and most of my friends/acquaintances/fellow employee's, had no idea it was Oscar's night.

I knew the oscars were bs when tombstone didnt win and val kilmer didnt get best actor for his portrayal of doc holiday. in fact, kilmer wasnt even nominated, which shows the people in charge of this award have no real knowledge of movie appeal and acting.

Got around to watching the opening several minutes last night. My wife, a huge musical geek, loved the two women from Wicked. Sorry, I disagree. The first, Ariana, was awful. Oh, she can sing, but "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is not the song to showcase your singing abilities. That song is supposed to be mournful and subdued. She lost it...awful. Cynthia can really sing. Wow.

Conan was great.

I went to Anora tonight.

Meh. Nothing special. Kind of a tonal mess.

Tried to blend a serious drama with a 60-minute version of the one sequence from Borat when Borat and Azamat run naked through the hotel while yelling incoherent eastern European things at each other just with somewhat less male nudity. Definitely seen worse films in my life but I don't know how somebody would have interpreted that film as the best one made this year compared to even the few others I've seen.

The comedic elements work pretty well. But they're the lightweight part. The rest, not so much.
