Golden era of Cyclone Athletics. I really would have to give some credit to recent university leadership (Presidents), and obviously Jaime and coaching hires. Without Paul and Matt, and Fred, Steve (the recruits were amazing), and Bill and TJ, these things would also not be happening.

The only time I can remember that would compare would be the early '70s. Johnny Majors, Maury John, Harold Nichols, Chris Taylor and Dan Gable. The ISU Center was built, largely a project of President James Hilton. Everyone thought great things were in store. It just took 50 years to fully develop.

personally, i think most people get it, the business community in Ames doesn't...the problem is are we going to be allowed to compete.

This is why the 80s and 90s were such a disaster, it put us so far behind it took 35 years to catch up. If this run occurred in the 80s we might not be in this situation.

Although, Blum said he sent out 2k emails asking for sponsorships for an event to the Ames business community and received zero replies.

I'm sure people will disagree, but Ames has done the university no favors either. It's like the university is an annoyance to these people. Well, they will find out how well these businesses do if Iowa state athletics drops off the map.

Take a look at the wsj article on western Illinois from this week, and what happens to a community when enrollment gets cut in half.

You didn’t know Nembhard played at Gonzaga? Obi Toppin was National Player of the year at Dayton (the year Hawkeyes cried 0 mpg Garza lost it to him). Turner played against us at Texas.

I’d agree it’s more of an “effect” of ISU having success than a “cause” of future success.

I thought Turner looked familiar and I guess I do remember Nembhard at Gonzaga now that I think about it. Maybe it's more a factor of me getting old and not following non-ISU sports as much as I used to. Or maybe you made my point by rattling off only 3 more players?

But yes, it is indeed a golden era of cyclone athletics. I'm sure there will be more peaks and some valleys in the future, but the valleys are there to remind ourselves to appreciate the peaks. When arriving at a peak, take a breath, look around, and enjoy it while you can. But even when in a valley, it's not doom and gloom. There are things to appreciate even when down low.

Yes .. but .. in these days you could sit wherever you wanted. Fifty yard line every game and no lines at the concessions.

Part of your point is about 20-25 of the annual 60 draft picks are foreign now and another 5 are Americans who play a year of pro dev, although with college basketball playing crap players 10x what they’re worth that will start to change. If a marginal guy like Josh Dix is worth a million bucks for one year the actually good euro players will flood our college game (assuming it doesn’t become illegal for all foreigners to attend college in USA).
