It Didn't Look Like Happy Horsecrap to me

NO QB pressure w/out the blitz.
LB's are unaware that they are part of the pass defense as well.

That could've been the most embarassing loss of the McCarney tenure, with all the hype surrounding the 1st game. Luckily, we pulled through, but I don't think it's happy horsecrap that we're gonna have to score a LOT to win games. Especially when we start playing good teams.[/quo

I was not able to attend last night's festive opening contest...due to a little distance. So I cannot comment on issues of play, situational calling of formations...and such.

But I can tell you is this....you are quite on your way to becoming my favorite target for which to apply my lash of shame. One game into the season and you have wasted no short amount of time to spill such gloomy bile upon this website. It is most apparent that this form of negative spouting has been your modus operandi in previous opinions posted...and frankly..I do tire of them..and I am not even in the damn country. Please...be more positive..unless you wish to become my focus of keyboard scorn. If internet tangles and bite marks upon your nuggets is what is missing from your existance...I shall relent and provide such requested needs

Actually, he started spewing his hate over a week before the season started...calling for D-Mac's head prior to ISU getting just one snap in.

I'll bet he had issue with how ISU took the field and was screaming "FIRE MAC!" as the players took the field.:Bomb:

His name is now penciled into my "little black book" of those most deserving of the white glove slap across the cheek. Right next to every hawkeye fan that I know. (143)

"We went to the Houston bowl because Mac can't manage to coach his way out of a wet paper sack when the game goes to over-time. "

Given your previous post I would think you would be giving Mac Credit today?

I saw a lot of guys that need to learn their postions better and a very conservative defensive strategy that allowed their QB to get in a comfortable rythm. I also saw some very athletic players on D who, when they have game experience, could be pretty good.

And that's why getting an early test as we did last night...was good. As much as we the fans didn't like it...there's no way that hurts our team one bit.

They just need to get back to working on pressuring the QB and pass coverages. The run defense was great...although we need to find out if that was a product of our defense or the efficiency of Toledo's passing attack and them not running the ball much.

Coach Mac needs to learn how to call plays (or Barney) with a lead. To shut it down in the last quarter with a TD lead is a poor move that has burned us many times and will continue to burn us.

Seriously come up with something more original than the crap that everyone makes on assumptions. Do you honestly think Mac says "okay boys we got a lead, let's shut her down and just start running between the two guards and center only?" If you do, you have little to no football knowledge and just believe all the other posters who spew the crap. On the drive you are talking about Stevie had one run, a missed pass was thrown and Bret did one QB draw. So are you saying the 70 yards and 3 touchdowns was a shutdown offense? If so, it sounds like a good plan to me.

Isn't it ironic that our first OT win came against a team that had never lost an OT game in 4 tries

I am not going off others posts. No, I don't believe he says "shut it down." I believe he is so scared of a potentail mishap that he plays to safe. The plays that get us the points that are run in the first half aren't the ones ran in the 4th quarter. The score board shows it bu only 3 points in the 4th compared to the rest of the quarters. For instance:

Iowa State at 10:03 4th quarterTOLISU1st and 10 at TOL 45Stevie Hicks rush for a loss of 1 yard to the Toled 46.15232nd and 11 at TOL 46Bret Meyer rush for 2 yards to the Toled 44. 3rd and 9 at TOL 44Bret Meyer pass complete to RJ Sumrall for 18 yards to the Toled 26 for a 1ST down. 1st and 10 at TOL 26Stevie Hicks rush for 2 yards to the Toled 24. 2nd and 8 at TOL 24Bret Meyer rush for no gain to the Toled 24. 3rd and 8 at TOL 24Bret Meyer rush for 3 yards to the Toled 21. 4th and 5 at TOL 21Austin Flynn pass incomplete to Ben Barkema. (bobbled FG try)

Iowa State at 2:53 4th quarter
1st and 10 at ISU 6Bret Meyer rush for 1 yard to the IowSt 7.23232nd and 9 at ISU 7Bret Meyer rush for 7 yards to the IowSt 14. 3rd and 2 at ISU 14Bret Meyer pass incomplete to Austin Flynn. 4th and 2 at ISU 14Mike Brandtner punt for 31 yards, fair catch by Steve Odom at the IowSt 45.

So obviously you have proven to me that trying to establish a running game means shutting it down? I'm lost!
