Bates could be a Jeremy Maclin type player. Receiver brought around for reverses and option passes. Definite playmaker. I thought AA looked pretty good. Threw some nice passes. Hopefully Bates and others will compete. Nice problem to have. And you need two quarterbacks in this league. It wouldn't hurt to throw the opposition off. I remember the Wayne Stanley, Buddy Hardeman days. Very pleasant memories. Awesome offense.

I would think that Bates is too small to play safety but that is interesting if he is willing to do it.

Man I saw Bates up close at the walkthrough practice before the Colorado game and the kid blew my mind. The guy is ripped and has some serious muscle!!!! He absolutely has the pysical stature to play safety.

Anybody else drooling at the idea that Bates could be a Randle-El (pro) type player?

If he's as good a QB as some say, and Arnaud holds onto the spot. Think of the options that a fast, mobile, versatile receiver like Bates would provide.

In response to "what did he do this year" - I think a good portion of his futility was due to poor play calling. They never did anything with him EXCEPT run. Did he throw a single ball this year. Everything was designed QB run. Pretty easy to defend when the D expects nothing else. As far as receiving - I thought he did pretty good, when you consider he's only out there sporadically and probably the 4th or 5th receiver as a true frosh.

Wallace had his TD in toledo and that was about it, he is fast but they want to get some meat on him thiss offseason and make him a physical reciever, he isnt physical enough to be D1 this season and that is what they are working on. He has the skills no doubt. Hopefully he has some success next season, he works hard

Agree saw Wallace up close for the first time at the same walkthrough and couldn't believe how skinny the kid was.

On a side note I would like to see Bates come in and run some stuff like McFadden at Arkansas does.

If he plays anything other than QB on offense, I hope they don't give him the ball every time he is on the field. I hope he gets on the field as WR if he isn't the QB, and let him play WR a decent amount of the time. Then, when you want to play some trickery with him, the defense won't be keying in on him like they did every single time he tried to run a play this year.

This was the biggest problem trying to use Bates this year. He wasn't on the field enough, and when he was the defense keyed on him because they knew he was going to get the ball.

Bates would be a good wide reciever but could be an all-big12 or better saftey. Hes got the speed and size for position. The problem is convincing him to play it

He has the tools to be an all Big 12 or better WR too.

Agree he's got all the physical tools to play so many positions, and from everything i've heard, that includes qb....

Now,i also agree that he was underutilized, only running routes and hand offs, i thought that the end around pass would have been a devastating play and would keep the db's honest opening up those running plays even more.

However, if in fact he was the 4th or 5th wide receiver in any route, well thats no good because we never got to a 2nd progression let alone a 4th or 5th!!!! So his route and seperation was worthless unless he suggested the play such as the Iowa game. In the post game, he indicated that he and Jay Rodgers i believe had identified how the lb had been covering him in a particular alignment and adjusted the route - thats coaching on the fly and what changes games....the defense is not going to be countering for something that might happen should a converted qb run a double move although i will give props, Klinkenborg had great coverage Bates just made a Better play....thats what we need on both sides of the ball playmakers, i don't care what position, what number they are, what grade level, i don't care, i simply want playmakers that make plays.......

Gotta get both AA and Bates on the field same time, however that happens, we have to have our most talented team on the field.....
