well shoot.

in other news, I left for dinner as the 2nd was at 32/33 and got back to the hotel to catch the stats for the match point. Long game. Hopefully they are rested for the weekend.

Our football team has a quarterback issue. Our volleyball team has a setter issue, and by the way, it's been going on for a while. When we're in system and Schaben and the middles are hitting the ball where it can't be blocked, or the outsides are getting it faster than the block can get there, we're running points side out. But, when we scramble like chickens with our heads cut off, we're awful. Plus, our setters can't block. Huge problem.

This loss hurts us for the tourney, again. They need it, it's all they have. They were 5-4 coming in. Plus, it makes our conference look terrible. Better coaches will beat UNI in conference.

What's up with uni owning us? Basketball, football, volleyball.

Following the score and in set 2, our hitting is awful. Can anyone tell me is it our hitting or our setting that is the problem? I find it hard to believe that UNI's blocking is so overwhelming.
Hitting percentages were low for both teams. Miranda seems to come in and make some good things happen. The defenders played well. Watched Hillegas play in the past as a setter. She runs a really quick offense and teams have trouble getting set up on the block. Might be another option? Blocking is improving, but it would be nice to see a few more blocks on our side of the net. Overall, it seems like ISU is further ahead than they were last year at this time.

I agree setting is an issue, buthe I think the back row is a bit of an issue. Jess is awesome player and athlete but her serve receive passing isn't there yet.

We always get into trouble with these rally teams when we get into a junk ball.

We don't make them work to block, freeing up players to defend.

And I'm tired of seeing our outsides being forced outside the pin losing down the line'as an option forcing them into cross court attacks constantly.

Hudson and the last one to leave set this program back.

No just playing poorly. Maybe the next time she makes a service error, it'd be easier to take if she wasn't working gum like Ditka.

I'm going conspiracy theory here, they don't want anyone to see the fix.

I have to say I watch a lot of volleyball -follow stats pretty closely.
Not sure what's going on but it appeared that Berta was leading the entire Big 12 after two weeks and then all the sudden wasn't playing . I don't know about you but you must not be playing to poorly if you're leading the Big 12.
So I'm not sure what to think about all that. I think we definitely need her , she's been a solid player for us for two years I think Phillips is doing OK but definitely not putting up the same numbers Berta did at Libero The first few weeks.

How does staffing officials work in Volleyball? I can't imagine they fly around officials like they do for football or basketball.

All of the major conferences have commissioners who make assignments from their roster of officials. And yes - many of them fly to assignments, depending on distance.

I know CJL said stat wise Phillips was the better passer in the last bit but man, I really think we do better when Berta was in. I thought her passes were more on target. I only saw stats for the Nebby weekend so I don't know if Berta had a really bad passing weekend and that's what happened there to cause the swap? We need Jess's hitting from the back row and I thought her defensive play had been getting better, sounds like it may need a bit more.
Hope that Mauck is reading to go next fall. Like someone said, Hudson and Remi leaving have left us in a bad spot when it comes to elite level setting. Our outsides are good but man, we've GOT to use our middles so we aren't so predictable and handcuff the outsides. I've only gotten to see stats for several of our games so I may be off target but I had not been impressed with our setting attempts to the middles in games I saw tv. Maybe it was the passing and I was missing that, but I saw some really ugly sets to Samara and Grace.

I get to watch them in person tonight and tomorrow so maybe that will make things more apparent.
