I'm starting to think this makes a little more sense when you think about it with a Notre Dame perspective. If they can get the Big East stablized (keep it viable with football) they can still be independent in football and have a home for their non revenue sports.

I'm pretty sure ND will get the ultimatum - You're either in all the way or out all the way. And good luck finding a conference for your Olympic sports...

Here's what I think. Whis would be the biggest coup in the history of college sports. This automatically makes the Big East the overwhelming best basketball conference in America. This also gives us a great chance to compete in football. A great chance. You JP haters can shove it if this happens.

it would be pretty hilarious if Notre Dame says no to the Big10, the Big10 loads up with 16 as does everyone else in SEC, PAC10, ACC and leave enough of the BigEast and leftovers for Notre Dame to form their own conference that they think they can dominate leaving 5 superconferences instead of 4 and totally destroying the other bigs plans of a closed playoff. And even better if we end up in that boat.

The more I think about it the more I like it. The Big East actually needs our Football Team. For Football we would have better records and would be able to play in Florida, and would be on TV a lot more.

For Basketball our exposure would be huge and attendance would skyrocket watching Louisville, West Virginia, etc. Hilton magic would be huge for us and our Recruiting profile would be improved. ISU would have the East Coast Bias working for it. imagine that.

A year ago if you told me there was a conference break and we were relegated to the BigEast I would have cried. Now if it comes out we have a seat at the BigEast I will cheer...Live to fight another day, ISU.

I'll tell you what, I am much more excited about the name recognition in the Big East than anyone in the MWC. Cincinnati, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, UConn, Louisville, USF...not so much Syracuse except in basketball. IF (and it is a big if) they can get the basketball situation figured out instead of being the conference that takes all teams not associated with the conference, I would like this a lot!

Then what happens to ND's decision? They are already in the Big East for basketball...never wanted to be in the Big Ten for anything...could they form up with the Big East as well?

They have an AD....he hasn't resigned yet...

Oh, m'bad

I read that blurb wrong. Plans to step down at the end of the school year.

That's what you get for loaning out the school Bowflex to your buddies!

I know that that was bantered around before all this realignment stuff really got going, but I think that the Big East knows they are in a similar spot to the Big 12 (a little better because the ACC could sweep in). I just don't know that the Marquettes, DePauls, Seton Halls, etc of the conference would be willing to tell ND where to go b/c of football when it would likely take Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers with it, thus lowering the conference profile.

Clearly, it appears to be the best option. It is very exciting from a basketball perspective. The football perspective could grow on me. We'd at least get to keep some friends in Kansas, K-State, and Mizzou.

At this point, the only think I'm really disappointed about is losing Nebraska.

And at this point Farmaggedon is FOR REAL. Kansas has Mizzou, we got KSU. And we are all thats left of 100 years. That is a rivalry that is no longer forced.

How do you think Baylor feels in all of this - they are totally screwed. If we end up somehow in the Big East with KU, KSU and Mizzu. Baylor is relegated to MWC, WAC, CUSA.

you'll be less disappointed when the big10 is mopping the floor with them.

It'd be interesting to see what rivalries develop from this if it happens. I could see Louisville becoming a decent rival in football and Marquette and DePaul would have instant appeal because of proximity.
