Amounts to $300 per sq. yd. installed. That pretty pricey even for the best wool carpets. The new fibers are just as or more resilent than wool and less money. Wonder who (if anyone) did the research on this purchase?

When someone donates a large amount to the university, and they specifically state what the money is to be used for, the university is under an obligation to use it exactly what the donor specified the money. If the university fails to do this, they are obligated to repay the donor, or the donor will most likely never donate again. The $375k was donated money to use for the Knoll, and that is what it is being used to do. When I donate, I always specify where the money goes.

As others have mentioned, in one function this money is easily recouped. The sad thing is if the 90k were being spent for athletics, those on here griping about it would be all for it.

$4k a year does not seem that high to me ($90k/23 years). I have a modest home and would expect to spend roughly $7-10k on carpet every 7-10 years ($1k year). I can make a pretty well educated guess that the Knoll is probably more than double or tripple the square footage of my home. I certainly didn't use "high end" carpet and would guess they would spend about double what I did on a square unit measure.

Passes my 15 second test for reasonableness.
