I wonder if this has been done or not, but I am bored as I have had no school for the past 3 days!

I would like to know how you guys think the players through the decades for the program would go.

Here is my best guess:

1930's = Waldo Wagner, first All-American from ISU
1940's = ? I am not sure, but prolly has to be a player from the one and only Final Four team, but I do not know any of the players. According to the show, '100 Years of ISU Basketball,' it said due to the WWII, students could transfer to ISU and play sports to help the war effort. And I think many of those b-ball players were transfers into ISU
1950's = Gary Thompson, the Roland Rocket
1960's = Zaid Abdul-Aziz
1970's = Not sure, maybe Bill Cain? Dark Ages for ISU B-ball
1980's = Jeff Grayer, Jeff Hornecek, Barry Stevens, tough choices here....I would have to say Jeff Grayer due to his 2500 points
1990's = Fred Hoiberg
2000's = Tinsley, hard to find a spot for Fizer he started in the very late 90's, but had his best season in 2000....and then left
2010's = Ejim, so far.....

Am I way off on any of my picks?

See ya

Man, you start a thread and then you draw a blank for the 40s, our most accomplished team. Cm'n, man.

Wow. Terrible list. Jamaal Tinsley over Chris Caesar? All credibility lost.

Sam Hill has a LOT of ISU records that may never be broken:
Most fouls in a career.
Most fouls in a season.
Least minute played before fouling out.
Most shots blocked with his ears.

Maybe not on the least but deserves a mention.

What kind of numbers would Ivy have put up with the 3 point shot? Always loved Andrew as well and don't forget Chuck.

Jon Ness, Dean Uthoff should be considered. Uthoff was Mr. Rebound. Jon Ness was a deep threat - would have won a lot more games if they'd had the 3 point line back then.

This is where I plug the "enCYCLONEpedia" tab above. Cruise around career and season stats back to 1949-50.

But was not our glory years 1944/1945? We never approached that again. And 1935 was not so bad also.

Ha, well, maybe. But individual stats aren't readily available for that time.

But if you want to use that for the player of the 40's then you have to roll with Price Brookfield.

Would this require going through newspaper articles to see what journalists wrote about each game, if no one else was keeping individual player stats?

Well, maybe, but I doubt that would be conclusive. For instance, there were a couple of seasons in the early 50's where they didn't even bother to track shot attempts...only makes. So hoping to find all other stats is a bit of a long shot especially when rebounds weren't tracked until 1953-54.

That's when I was there. Ness would be looking to shoot as soon as he crossed the half court line. And he could hit from anywhere.
