I'm sure volleyball isn't at the top of your interest list but its fun to compare conferences. Looking at the Big East's volleyball standings from last year it's looking like
ISU has a real shot at winning this conference in the years ahead.

3 of the 15 schools made it to the NCAA's-- none of them making it out of the 1st round. This is quite a change from the big 12 with 5 teams making it to the sweet 16 last year.

This could be good and bad for Christy and the squad-- strength of non-conference schedule could help otherwise not the competition we are used to...of course the big IF we join the Big East.

I replied to a similar post in another thread.
The question is, would CJ-L stay at ISU? Or, would she want to coach in a conference that thrives in volleyball? She may stay and we could run through the conference, though. Who knows what would happen..

We will never keep Christy Johnson around if we play in this conference. Playing in a power VB conference - Big 12, Big 10, Pac-10 - is critical to recruiting success.

So, you mean Big 10 or Pac 10, right?:jimlad:

Yeah, I guess! Oh, the SEC is a great VB conference too.

One of the sad things about the "forgotten four" - ISU, KU, KSU, Baylor - is that ISU has the most to lose with our high-achieving, successful sports of women's bb, VB, and wrestling. There is no conference to go to that replaces what we had in the Big 12, and will damage all three sports.

One interesting fact - they do play a conference volleyball tourney, unlike the Big 12 with only the top eight making it. Our competition would be Notre Dame, Louisville, and Cincinnati. These three all made the NCAA tourney, all three lost in the first round.

You can still play some of your rivals from the Big 12. I'm sure NU would be willing to play us, and probably Texas. Of the teams leaving, they are the best.
