Yeah, while we get zero votes in the coaches poll, RPI is all the matters when it comes to volleyball and the end of the year tourney. RPI is huge in determining who gets in, who doesn't, and who gets seeds. So yes, while this season has had its ups and downs, overall, we aren't sitting in that bad of shape.

Just got to avoid bad losses to WVU or TTech. A home win versus KU or Texas would be good too. :)

Texas and KU play Friday - I think it will be on ESPN3.

Well, last year our RPI at the end of the regular season was at 15. Sixteen teams hosted the first and second rounds. So based on RPI, we should have hosted at Hilton, but instead were sent to Champaign. So much for RPI.
We need to win lots more games, have a better conference record than the 10-6 of last season, to hopefully get seeded. Our very good RPI of last year did nothing for us.

I think part of the problem was that a 10-6 record in a league with only a couple of better-than-ok teams wasn't going to cut it for hosting. The RPI gave us a shot, but some poor losses hurt (Baylor, K-State, TCU) and ultimately knocked us out of the running for one of those spots. We win two of those three and I believe we would have hosted 1st and 2nd round games for sure. You cannot lose to that many teams below you and expect people not to notice. This year, ISU simply has to win the matches they are supposed to win. No slip-ups, no excuses.

ISU is going to need a marquee win over Texas or KU to get ranked or get to be a host. Just beating everyone below you isn't going to cut it with all the power teams out there this year. The Pac 12 and Big 10 are just friggin loaded.

That being said, I know it is just WVU that we played last night, but the core team was firing on all cylinders out of the gate. Ciara and Jess were just on fire, neither having any hitting errors, and the serving was the best I have seen all year.

I think coach has finally settled on a rotation, and I think that also helps a lot.

Poor phrasing on my part in the last two sentences. "Simply has to win..." did not mean that's all it will take to host. What I meant was that they cannot lose to bad teams and expect any sort of 'reward' once the regular season is over. Hosting is no guarantee, especially if there is a pool of programs in a similar situation and they have to start looking at wins and losses.

Agree totally - I was attempting to respond to the poster who said "RPI is all that matters in volleyball." Not true - you desperately want to host, or else you get sent somewhere where the host school is very good, and you have to beat them to get to the regional. Like last year...

We would have to nearly run the table in our remaining games and beat KU and Texas and the other teams above in the ranking would have to totally tank for us to host. Just way too many Big 10 and PAC teams ahead of us and we aren't even receiving votes in the coaches poll.

though some of the Big 10 teams ranked might start to fall out. Wisconsin is really under-performing IMO, having lost to all the good teams except Illinois, and Illinois as well as they block, aren't doing so hot either. Having watched Nebraska utterly dominate so many teams, makes me feel pretty good about how we played them, especially being so early on.
