I have never had one. If you have, please let me know. This is a journalism project I am working on.

Absolutely. I have a ton of friends who are hawk fans and we love talking football together. Sounds like your problem is you attract losers.

it is hard to talk to them with their white sunglasses and flat billed Pittsburgh Pirates hats.

A guy who works on my son's pickup is a Hawk fan. He stays over night in his motorhome in the parking lot because he does not want to run over the PASSED OUT people laying on the ground. He owns a car dealership for one of the big 2 auto makers .
I do have some friends that are Hawk fans that you can talk to with out all the BS.
Every team has some fans that should stay home, some teams just have more than others.

Go to IC this weekend with ISU gear on and see how many friendly people say hi and welcome you. And check out the damage to your car if you have an ISU sticker on it.

I went 2 years ago decked out in ISU stuff and had no problems whatsoever. Had a few trash talkers but nothing that bad.

I have a very limited number of people who I can have an intelligent conversation with but there are some. But I also have some Cyclone buddies who have never had an intelligent conversation with a Hawk fan. The extent of their in depth analysis is "Hawks Suck"

This. I work in an office chock full of hawks and the ones that talk football have no problem carrying on an intelligent conversation about any team or any game, including the ISU-Iowa game.

On the flip side, I know lots of people from ISU that I would never try to rationally discuss our chances against Iowa with, or the merits of the Big Ten with, because the anti-Iowa sentiment is too deeply ingrained.

I have hawk friends that actually cheer for ISU when we go into conference play. Then I know people that all they do is trash talk and hate on us. There is a wide range of hawk fans.

I went to high school with a lot of people who went to Iowa, and none of them are bad at all. They obviously bleed black and gold, but they are very civil and dont take it to extreme.

Its the Tavern Hawks that I cant stand. The ones who bleed black and gold, but have no affiliation what so ever to the University of Iowa. Coincidentally, they are the ones who typically skipped college...

I don't ever expect to have an intelligent conversation with one. They are the most belligerent, delusional, obnoxious fanbase out there. It's like talking to a brick wall. The few who actually know a little about their team just spout the company line and look at you like you are an alien if you bring up an opposing viewpoint or somehow dare to question the almighty hawkeye.

For most, it's probably just a lack of education. I don't care that most of them didn't go to UI, but at least go SOMEWHERE and learn something. Don't just get that HS diploma and graduate to the corner bar.

Absolutely. My best friend is a Hawkeye fan and he is the most objective person I know when it comes to talking about football, including the Hawkeyes.

Now, is there such a thing as an intelligent conversation with a Hawk fan when everyone can hide behind a computer screen and act like Mr. Macho man? Absolutely not.

Do you ever wonder if they are talking down to your level?

To me, that you even ask the question may well say more about you than about Hawk fans.

To answer your question succinctly, yes, I had many intelligent conversations with my mother before she passed away.

I think there is a large portion of our fanbase that gets the conversation they expect from hawk fans. If you're going in with this attitude that they are going to be some sort of uneducated, homer jack-*** just because they follow of U of I, or hell, even because they didn't go to a 4-year college, why should they bother having a decent conversation with you? Why should they treat you or your team with respect when you have already decided they don't have yours just because they've got a tigerhawk on their t-shirt?

Burn.

But in all reality, the majority of the Hawkeye fanbase has an IQ somewhere inbetween the dog **** on my shoes and the guy that stumbles around the outside of the office building I work in picking up garbage all day.

Journalism teaches you to write at an 8th grade level, so just make sure your conversation isn't too intelligent.

And yet he's probably the doctor you will depend on someday. Grow up. Because we root for Iowa State does not make us superior in anything. The complex is unfortunately strong for some of you.

I've spent 19 years of my life in Eastern Iowa. My bitterness and utter dislike is aged over many, many different occurrences. Out of curiousity how many times have you had someone attempt to pick a fight with you for no other reason then wearing an ISU t-shirt? Or spit at you? Or have your trailer windows shot out because there was an ISU flag near the back window? Etc, etc.

Grow up? Please. **** them.
