Is football practice over?

So, do we get to practice at all anymore, even though we have no games scheduled and no possibility for a bowl game? Do we get to practice until all scheduled Big 12 games are over? If we were 6-6 and bowl eligible, would we get to practice until we were officially not invited to a bowl game?

"Boys, this is Big 12 football. It isn't intramurals. See you in the weight room."

I'm not sure how it is in Division I, but in Division III we are allowed to practice until the National Championship has been played.

Chizik said on his show Sunday that he was giving the team 10 days off. I doubt that means they'll come back for practice though. My guess is the off-season workout routine kicks in after those 10 days.

Give 'em hell Shep!

We need to get our Special teams out there and practice on the tundra over the holidays so we will be ready for next year. Snowing like gangbusters in Omaha too.

I can't remember where I heard it(maybe the Gene Chizik call in show before the KU game) where they were talking about how some of the players were dreading the week after the KU game because they go back to working HARD on strength and conditioning again and doing it 5 days a week like we heard about after spring practice. I think Gene was joking around about some of his players commenting to him that this was the last week of easier practice and then after KU, they start busting their tails again.

Take this for what's it worth but I heard from my wife (who's co-worker has a son on the team) that Chizik said he's going to weed out the weaklings during the off season workouts. Sounds like he's going to crank it up even more than last summer and see who's standing at the end.

That can only be a good thing. Don't need any softies on the team.

Great Post. There's a saying "Champions are built in the offseason"

That being said, look for a Cyclone team coming out next fall that is even more jacked about playing than last. Gene and his staff has settled in nicely from the sounds of it, now they can just focus on football and get this team to where we all want them to be!!!

I already got my season ticket money along with my NCC donation ready for purchase.

Othe post game lockerroom show last saturday one of the players mentioned to Eric that Chizik said this in the lockerroom.....something about finding out who wants to be on this team and who doesn't. I can't remember which player was being interviewed.

My coworker's son is a trainer for the team and he gave me the information that the football players were dreading Chizik's off season practices much more than the in season ones. And I had also heard that the monday after the Kansas game was when all hell would break loose. That may have been a figure of speech though as I would not be surprised if they were given 10 days for Thanksgiving and such. But if I were a player I wouldn't eat too much and lay around because my guess is that it will be coming back off quickly when they get back.

I am by no means an expert, but building biceps in the winter just doesn't seem to have much benefit when you won't be using them for 8 or 9 months. What about the totally disfunctional special teams? What about the noobie QBs that don't know the system? Maybe work on pass blocking technique for RBs or timing routes for receivers?

I do agree that recruiting should be a high priority. Maybe Chiz and the staff will get a break from the cold while they're hitting Texas and Florida.

A far fetched idea: what if we held a scrimmage with UNI in the next few weeks? They would get training for the post season and we would get a chance to work on improvements for next year. Don't they have an indoor stadium?

That is why there is a thing called Spring practice. And the team just doesn't lift weights all winter, there is agility and speed drills and even some 7 on 7 drills.

I read an article this morning that said that the team will get 1 1/2 weeks off, then they'll get back to it.
