Talk about an entertaining game Last night! As many of you know Hunter Deckkers is the QB for Western. They had their chances, as Western was up by two scores early.
I watched. Dekkers is not a dawg that gives it all for his team was my take away. Rocco would have found a way to get the last TD to win the game. I was pulling for IWCC all night and it is bad that they ended first half inside the 10 without scoring and ended the game inside the 10 without scoring (just to lose by 5, 28-23).

Announcers were pretty adamant that Dekkers will get a serious look at NFL camps.

He has the arm for the NFL. Does not seem like he is equal to Brock/Rocco between the ears. Might be an experience thing. But with that arm it's not crazy to think he would get a flier from someone. Would be a little crazy to see an extended career.

Like others have mentioned....his arm talent is honestly NFL caliber......reading defenses is a whole other story. I saw pretty much exactly what we saw when he was at Iowa State. Just not great decision making in some aspects of the game.

I had a meeting with Strohmeier and Herman one year…two very smart guys and one trying to keep up. One of us got paid a lot but didn’t do much more than the other two.

Evidently the common evaluation is that Dekkers is physically NFL worthy but not mentally. By that it’s suggested that an NFL QB is shall we say “smart”? I’ve seen some NFL QB’s interviews that make me question that. Some of Terry Bradshaw team members questioned his intelligence and he won a lot of SB’s. I could name others that have had boneheaded financial and social society decisions that weren’t brilliant. Big Ben comes to mind. I’m guessing if Dekkers has the physical tools that an NFL coaching staff can figure out what he can do.

I'll be surprised if he lasts more than 2 seasons

It doesn’t mean his general intelligence level, it means his football intelligence. He needs to understand things like that throwing a comeback pass to a receiver with under coverage is not smart. He will make poor decisions. You could see in the championship that he doesn’t know what is going on in the pocket. At times he could have either slipped out the front to give time, other times taken off upfield for a 5-7 yard gain to set up a short third down but he just stood there and took a sack. He doesn’t make good decisions.

I know what you’re saying and it might fit in the deer in the headlights category. I just don’t think it’s that simple to evaluate an NFL QB’s on field decisions by his college performance. We saw plenty of decisions that Purdy made in Ames that were really shockingly bad but the NFL coaches have cleaned that up. But yes, Dekkers needs help in that area and if his physical tools are that good, some NFL QB whisperer will give him a look as a UFA.
