In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

The Ankeny Mullets went into a brand new building...it looks like a first time restaurant went in there. The seating is split up, it has zero atmosphere, zero warmth. Its like it was only there for the rooftop which can only be enjoyed for about 6-7 months a year? Only got beer there so I can't say anything about the food but it was disappointing inside.
It's jammed in a space that was not really meant to have anything, but they are trying to capitalize on the bike trail. Going to have to compete with Trailside tap which has excellent food less than a block away.

Probably a newbie type question, but if a place has its license taken away, sells business to someone completely different, can the license renew at that point or does it have to be sold to someone new and it has to be a different business/name?

New owner would have a new LLC which would make them get a new liquor license under the new LLC.

Somewhat agree. But you can’t have an 18 y/o in high school buying alcohol (even though we always found a way). It should be 19.
Im one that thinks it should be the same age for everything. (outside driving, as thats not really about being adult)

Whatever age you choose, 18,19,20,21, whatever, being a legal adult should mean you are an adult and qualify for everything adulthood comes with. Drinking, Military service, smoking, Voting, whatever.

How can we say on one hand a person's brain is not developed enough to drink but in the same breath say it is enough to serve, fight and die for your country. How can we say someone is developed and knowledgeable enough to vote, but not enough to smoke? It is insanity.

If you are an adult at whatever age you are an adult. I would be ok with the powers deciding to come up with a happy medium and picking an age in between, say 20 for everything, but then making that age the everything adult age.

Because that answer is probably 25,and that's very inconvenient to our society and traditions.

Now Brick City Grill is closing? Crazy.
That checks out. I was trying to figure out how it was making it because it's been EMPTY the last few times I've been in there and they weren't times it should have been empty.

They had to be PRINTING money in their old location.

I'm not sure what the rent is for that building but based on location it's going to be astronomical...and there is a TON of underutilized space based on its current configuration.

Last time I tried to go there it was dead for lunch, they sat us at a too small table so we asked to move and they said no, so we walked over to Wallaby's.

Van Winkle ReMax offices just north of the current location.
If you’ve been around awhile, that’s where Brewer’s was originally. After Plus 39 left across the street south BBG moved there.

Went to their FB page thinking they announced maybe a few days ago nope announces 3 days to go. In comments someone rightfully angry said how could you let me buy a giftcard for a xmas present. At least with OC we gave people some time.
Easy...because the person selling the gift card has no idea and the ownership can't say stop selling gift cards without everyone jumping ship.

Unfortunately when places go out of business people ALWAYS get burned.

La Fuente: Margarita Challenge! I projectile vomited in their bathroom after completing this challenge.

My addition: the wing place in the West Ames Hy-Vee strip mall. Cira 2006, they had 25 cent wings and they were pretty good.

Just read those comments. Ouch.

Brick City has been running crazy deals ever since they moved across the street. I hate to say it but I am surprised it took this long.
This goes to show the importance of perception. Old location: packed, always a wait, loud and fun atmosphere. New location: Never packed and quite frankly a little too nice for what I thought they were going for.

It's a valuable lesson. I really missed the old location and would say it every time I patronized (no pun intended) their business.
