The university book store has a lot of nice things. Some of the stuff can be a little pricey, but they also have some good deals.

They have pretty cool stuff on the ISU website through the online store called Cy's Locker Room. Picked up one of the new "Game Day" Ts for $10. They are pretty sweet...

I'm gonna echo the votes for UBS. They're transitioning out everything with the old logo, and it's all on big sales until it's gone. Get there quick if you want any of it, though. The new Nike gear is already rolling in. It's a vastly different style than what they've sent us in the past, but it's pretty cool. I'm excited to see them keep sending us more stuff throughout the summer.

FWIW, Dogtown is also doing some housecleaning. Haven't checked T-Galaxy or Intensitees yet, but I doubt they have anything worth noting.

I wasn't too impressed with the new logo hats at Scheels. The Nike hats aren't fitted and the others are still bright red and not cardinal. However, I found a great fitted, cardinal colored I-State hat at Pro-Image and Hatz at Jordan Creek.

As a five year member and alum of the marching band I'd be interested to know what they're planning to do about the band uniforms. The current ones have to be at least 13 to 14 years old (I'm pretty sure they were already 2 to 3 years old my first year in 97). Are they going to replace the whole uniform, or just the overlays that have the "old" logo on the one side.

Spend $25 at Cy's Locker room and get a free I State shirt. Spend $50 and get the free shirt and free shipping.

Through June 12th!

If you order from cyclones.com (Cy's Locker Room), your shipment will come from UBS. They've got some sort of deal worked out.

Replacing the overlays would be the cost effective solution. They're about $90 each I think... but the red color wouldn't look right.

I bet the drumline wishes they hadn't bought red drums recently. Kind of a mistake in my opinion.

There's also the matter of the raised "swoosh" ISU across the back.

I'd also wondered about that and had figured they would just replace the overlays too, but I'd forgotten all about the ISU swoosh on the back. Looks like the band is getting new unis! Eventually anyway...I'd be surprised to see any this year. For now I bet they'll just wear the overlays with the "CYCLONES" side showing and not use the side with the old punching Cy logo.

I hope they do. The band is my family's favorite part of the fb games.

The CYCLONES side only is a good bet for this fall, from what current members are thinking. New overlays would be a great surprise, as long as the new cardinal goes with the red pants. That being said, the red drums won't clash with the red pants. And there's nothing we can do about the swoosh on the back. I think completely new uniforms are probably a few years down the road.

I was just at the UBS today and bought my Nike jersey. Love it. Of course, I forgot to have my new Cyclone Club card on me to save my 15% which would have saved me $9 on the jersey if my math is correct.

That's the reason I like UBS is for the discount, same with the other Ames stores. Scheel's is a last resort for me.

I really doubt that there are any changes coming to the band uniforms in the foreseeable future. Multiple reasons:

1) The uniforms aren't 14 years old; not exactly. Every year, the band buys a handful of new uniforms to replace old ones. Uniforms are constantly being cycled out and replaced; it's much more manageable financially than buying an entire new set every time the old ones wear out. So even though the same design (like it or not) has been around ever since the whirlybird was introduced in the 90's, most of the individual uniforms are only a few years old.

2) The 'bird in a blender' logos are still acceptable to use, just not as primary marks. While the ISU whirlybird on the front of the overlay isn't the ideal logo, it still makes sense to use on gameday. It's a much more modern look than the 'Cyclones' sash on the other side. My prediction is that we will continue to use the overlays as normal for the coming season. Same explanation for the 'ISU' swoosh on the jacket backs. We're still the Cyclones, and still ISU. It might not be the most up-to-date logo, but I doubt it is a big enough change to warrant all new uniforms.

3) The Department of Music is essentially broke. The university keeps cutting funding (and cutting and cutting and cutting) because the state is doing the same thing to the university. Unless a private donor, the Alumni Band, or Kappa Kappa Psi / Tau Beta Sigma come forward with a huge donation, it's going to be a long time before the band can even afford new uniforms. New overlays are a possibility, maybe. Even when new uniforms do come, it will probably be jackets only- the pants we currently use are already a darker shade that can pass for cardinal. They'll probably skip on new pants and save that for a future purchase so that they can concentrate on getting new overlays and/or jackets.

4) As for the drumline drums, that's a moot point. The wooden shells on the drums we use don't come in a 'cardinal' shade, and the lacquered synthetic shells that are available in that color are second-tier material that would degrade the drums' sound below that of the wooden shells we have. We've used the drums for three years already and there's certainly no problem with color clashes, but that's a secondary consideration anyway.
