It really disturbs me that squawk fans still use the "ISU's Superbowl" mentality. This is a straight quote from HR. They were doing a prediction of the season.

September 16th – Iowa State – No matter what any Cyclone fan tells me, they could go 1-11, but if that one win is against Iowa, it is a successful season for them. That is the billboard mentality that exists in Ames and if you don't think so, just take a drive up 3-80 this fall and see the proof. The Clones want Iowa's attention and respect, well they have it. The ISU offense will be pretty good, but can they stop the run? What will Iowa do? Run, run, and then run a few more times. Albert Young will have a good day and all will be right once again in the Hawkeye State. Iowa 24, ISU 17.

I say screw this. When we prove ourselves again this year in Kinnick, let's keep the 1st string in the whole game and shove it down their throat for the whole four quarters.

They only use the Superbowl thing cause it's the best excuse they can come up with for their consistently losing to us over the last 8 yrs. I called Jon Miller's show last week and made the comment to him that I never heard that argument when they were beating us every year. It has only started since we have gone 6 for 8 and soon to be 7 for 9.

I see your point about keeping the first string in for 4 quarters but we can't do that or we might have a triple digit score. I say score 50 or 60 points in the first half and then send all the main coaches and all players except the practice squad so we can start working on the next weeks game. Cool thinking

oh, but my favorite is when they claim that they were a better team than us last year (didn't we finish with the same record?). hype doesn't count as having the best team!

I'm not sure if we will win next year, but I hope we give them a challenge so they will shut up!

Whats hilarious is ISU fans never say "this is our superbowl". That phrase has been inserted by the Hawk Fans who need some way to cope with losing over and over again. You are right that that phrase was never used when they consistently pounded us for years.

Also, if you ask me who we I MOST would like to beat this upcoming season? I would have to say Nebraska because it will mean so much in the North division. After that, either a Texas or Oklahoma win would be awesome. Beating Iowa as a non-conference opponent doesn't do much for us as a Big XII team. Does it make my day? Hell yeah! Do I love having bragging rights for the year? You bet! But is the biggest, most important game of the year? No way!

I can't remember the last time that i heard someone say they would be happy with going 1-11 as long as we beat Iowa. All I hear now is they would be fine with losing to Iowa as long as ISU wins the north. Personally I want both because I am greedy.

sorry for saying the same thing CyinCo just beat me to it.

EXACTLY! I'd bet 99.9% of Cyclone fans would rather defeat the defending National Champions in Texas than whooping up on the little red-headed step-sister we call Iowa.

I'm officially jacked for the season now. Monkeybrow, i think it's time for a hiliarious comment about this topic now.

Back in the 80's when we were in the middle of the 15 in a row, I said many times I would be happy with 1-11 as long as we beat EIU, because we never really had many more wins than that so it just as well be them......

But, now that we have a reputable program that hopefully continues to gain clout and/or momentum, beating the soon to be EIU community college is becoming less a huge game and more of a "well at least it will shut up the people who think their hot S*#T on a gold platter when they are nothing more then cold turds on a paper plate" game and winning keeps them in their own rental houses talking to the walls adjusting the aluminum foil antenna's on their black and white TV's.

The fact that Kinnick is the golden chalice that supports the creator's seed orbs...I am just grateful that the Hawkeyes let us even participate in a contest there. The chance to observe Tate toss for a few touchdowns while the Heisman club fervently engraves his name...to the black and gold marching up and down the field in their pretend Steeler costumes. oh the glory.

Hey, at least he is predicting a close game unlike years of past that had Iowa predicting 50 point victories (including last year). It's still early, so we will see those predictions soon, I have confidence in our little hawkeye pals.

Hmph. All the more reason as to why ISU desperately needs a breakout season.... seriously. If we're kicking butt, I couldn't care less about how the hawks are doing.

You know what gets me is we can beat Iowa but then we tank the rest of the season. I saw this on another board and I just stared at it for about ten minutes before I thought what a crappy conference record. And to think that we didn't play the top three teams in the Big 12 the last 2 years. Just look at these results and tell me your happy with where the program is. This is our conference record over the last 10 years. We have 1 winning season, just 1 fricken winning season.

<span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%">1996 1-7
1997 1-7
1998 1-7
1999 1-7
2000 5-3
2001 4-4
2002 4-4
2003 0-8
2004 4-4
2005 4-4

</span>This is truely pathetic. If Mac can't get it done this year, it's time for him to go.

No wonder Sqhawk fans laugh at us and call the game ISU's superbowl. Hell we didn't even play TX, OK and TT last year. I'd give my left nut to win a conference championship and go to a New Years day bowl. I could care less if Iowa kicked our ass as long as we were playing for a championship!

Time to change your attitude about the Hawkeyes saying it's our Superbowl. I say let them think that. It means they already have their built in excuse for losing the game. After all winning the game is what matters.

A co-worker of mine, who is a big Hawkeye fan, tried that line on me a few weeks ago in the presence of a neutral observer. I told him to go right on thinking that. We are satisfied to continue winning the games no matter what you want to think. The neutral observer got a chuckle out of that comeback.

You have nuetral observers? Whats that like? I carpool with 4 hawk fans and all i hear is "we're gonna kick your ass." One of them actually predictd a 56-3 Iowa win last year. with an undefeated season at that! The others actually had some respect and gave us a few points but not one of them stopped laughing after I predicted a 24-17 win by Iowa state. At least they didnt stop laughing until Drew tate threw his third interception.

I felt great when my boss called us all in for a "press conference" in the conference room, where we ate McDonalds and watched the game, or at least the first half of the game when my boss kicked us out of the room (because he's a hawk fan) and i had to listen on the radio.then they took a taxi home.

When I was in Okoboji this weekend one Iowa fan told me that Tate would have brought them back because Manson sucked. I told him that Iowa at least scored when Manson was QB and I brought up Tate's three picks in 1 1/2 quarters. Then he compared Tate to Brett Farve and how he was a gun slinger and would have brought I back in the second half.

I couldn't stop laughing.

actually, last year before the game they showed on tv 2 cyclone students who both said (quote) it doesn't matter if we lose every game, as long as we beat iowa. That didn't help any at all.

Those part-time Cyclone fans, that say they only want to beat Iowa, fuels this Super Bowl crap far more than what any Iowa fan can say.

Until we locate these fools and either convert them to becoming full-time, educated Cycone fans, or shut them up - the Super Bowl crap will continue.

It didn't help our case at all when that idiot coed went on national TV before last year's game and said she didn't care if ISU lost every other game as long as they won today. The SQUAWK fans jumped all over that one. Someone should have told her to shut her silly mouth. The network must have had to look far and wide to find that idiot because I don't know of one other Cyclone fan who feels that way. Or maybe she was a SQUAWK plant.
