This whole playing innocent thing is honestly insulting. Obviously urbclone threw out some of the things we don't like about Tirrell, did you just have no idea he said these things or felt this way about ISU?

Nobody will care if you say that you thought Morgan was overmatched or that McCarney has let seasons slip through his fingers. I would say that you would be hard pressed to get a majority of us to disagree with you on this. To suggest this is why we might be opposed to your duo taking over doesn't take in to account the fact that we have prior knowledge of things said in the past. If anything, this thread made us all well aware of it.

Undoubtedly Deace pandered to his audience and played to ISU a lot when he started CycloneNation. No one was confused as to where his allegiences really lied though, and that was to Michigan and the almighty dollar. He didn't start CycloneNation because he loved the Clones. He started it to make bank, end of story. Also, you take a jab at Paul Clark, who is a true Cyclone lover, and that isn't a way to endear yourself to fans buddy. There is no quicker way to unite people against you than to attack one of their own.

I still don't have a problem with you, and I doubt anybody really does here. I've always gotten the impression that you really don't care about ISU or Iowa, and in fact I would perfer it that way. I felt like Deace was in that same boat and that is what appealed to me about him. He really doesn't have a vested interest in Iowa or ISU, so in covering them he maintained somewhat objective.

The problem we have with KXNO now isn't that we don't necessarily like Tirrell or Jon Miller (although many of us don't), it's that there is no objectivity left. We're beset with Hawk fans on all sides. And as I said before, the quickest way to unite people is to put them under seige from a shared enemy. I'm hoping this news about Cyclone media representation is pretty good, because right now, Tirrell, Jon Miller, and KXNO have formed what our esteemed president has coined an "axis of evil".

I think that Bryce should start a new thread with this post. In my opinion, Marty & Miller will have to do a lot of good things for the Cyclone cause to earn back any trust.

Gotta love my Cyclone brothers for the 'shark-to-blood' responses to Miller's post. Bless us all, we're a bitter bunch of people who have long memories. Keep it up.

But am i the only one who thinks its hilarious that RADIO PERSONALITIES are coming on this (and i'm sure other) sites to drum up listeners? Uh, hi. Nice marketing tactic. There was this guy + others over the past few weeks with the changes in Central Iowa sports talk....but still.

By the looks of these posts by the talk morons, here's a take on their schedules lately:

1. Wake up @ 10.
2. Eat a pop-tart while watching Cold Pizza, wondering what happened to Kit Hoover
3. Figure out what 'controversial' topic they'll feature on today's show.
4. Take a position on #3's topic that will create the most outrage, driving call-ins
5. Stop for gas to fill up their Subaru Justy
6. Log on to work computer and hit ISU message boards to offer an olive branch in hopes of more listeners.
7. Grab a donut and laugh at 'how easy it is to waffle' to ISU fans to get them to listen
8. Wipe the sugar glaze from the donut on thier Drew Tate jersey.
9. Go home and think of cute license plates.....like 'CPTNKIRK' or ' TATE4HISMN'

At the end of the day, talkjocks should show a little dignity and class by not trying to fool Cyclone Nation into thinking "wow, they really seem sincere, i'll tune in tomorrow b/c they like us now. They REALLY like us!".

They don't. They'll still lean to the Hogeyes - since they have more fans (puke). And all they want is ratings and will would flop on any argument to get viewers.

I want a John Walters/Erick Heft Show. Sure, a little boring...but sincere.

Interesting how the olive branch in extended when ratings and a job depend on cyclone fans listening. Why couldn't "I come in peace" have happened in the past when bashing our fan base and university was going on?

Sorry, but no way do cyclone fans care 2 sh!ts for your radio show. Have fun standing in the unemployment line.

I don't think Ken Miller is a bad guy but I refuse to listen to Tirrell. Tirrell has tried to downplay his animosity toward ISU and it just doesn't ring true. His comments about Iowa having 90% of the fans in this state therefore he does not need to talk ISU was made this spring. A leopard does not change his spots. I'll be tuning into Deace on 1040.

I agree. Tirrell is quick to blow off ISU. Now that he needs the ratings, he cares what ISU fans think.

As for Jon Miller, my main problem is flat out bias. If Deace says ISU fans need a kick in the ass, or the coach did something wrong, that's one thing. If Miller says the same thing, then it's from a hawk, which may be biased. ISU fans can take criticism from neutral parties, but criticism from hawk lovers is something ENTIRELY different. Now, a show of Miller and BJ Schaben or Miler and Eric Heft would be GREAT. Or, a Miller show followed by even a Ken Miller only show would be OK. Something where we hear from both sides. Instead, this is what we have. Count me in on the 590 bandwagon.

Both Jon Miller and Marty Tirrell claim that their "act" was baggin on the Cyclones. It wasn't their real personality. I have a hard time believing that is was an "act".

I certainly can respect where you are coming from. And part of that act will continue, because its going to create some buzz. But when I say things about Iowa situations that tick off Iowa fans, that will be some buzz, too.

Deace's supporting the Clones at first was part act. The person who told Scout.com to put Deace in charge of their ISU website and magazine, and the person who suggested to Deace what he should name it? Yours truly. Why did I want that so much? Because I felt he and I could play off of one another. That was back in 2003, nearly three years ago. He was not the Clone supporter then that he really is now. He just didn't like Iowa, and there was an opening for the ISU side.

I felt that there would be great cross-genre opportunities for us one day with the spy vs spy thing.

And it worked out that way (Cy-Hawk Talk). We almost had the folks at Clear Channel talked into Deace and I co-hosting his show, and going statewide with it. In fact, I was a few days away from ordering an ISDN line into my house in KC in August of 2004...it was that serious of discussion. I think that would have been a lot of fun, and people would have listened to it. But then again, the reason it didn't happen is because Deace was already getting ratings as big as any sports talker in America, so why risk a good thing? And there is only so big one can go on a 5000 watt station before the big leagues call (WHO).

You have to realize this; I have lived in Central Iowa for just over one year of my adult life. The 6 years I was in KC, there was not Clone hating going on...there was no relevance. I despise Kansas State, Missouri and Illinois more than any other programs, period. The Clones are no where near that list.

And realize this; the Clone fans that come up and introduce themselves to me around the city, and since the TV show began that has happened quite a bit, have had nothing but nice things to say, at least to my face
<
People seem to get that part of what we all do on the radio is entertainment. There is a time and place for that, but there is a time and place for hard news and serious opinion and analysis.

When some of you say that I come off smarmy and arrogant, its mostly because it has been intentional, and in the spy vs spy mode that Deace and I have had. We get into a spirit of one-upsmanship.

But we also keep it real when it calls for it.

For some of you, and this post is a good indicator, its going to be hard to parse those things out. And if you choose not to listen based on that, I can certainly respect your opinion.

I just don't have any real deep down dislike for ISU, except for about 10 days a year leading up to three sporting events between the schools. That's it.

And getting to know Jamie, establishing a relationship with Coach McCarney, and hopefully Coaches Fennelly, Sanderson and McDermott will make it easier and more obvious to know when I am having some fun and when its in the spirit of entertainment. You won't see me taking cheaps shots at the coaches.

I recently had a communication with Coach McCarney and I owned up to having called him Spin DMC on the air, and telling him the context and intent behind it. Whether or not he had heard me say that or not, I didn't want to contact him out of some disingenuous setting, and owned up to that one. He appreciated that, and let me know that he doesn't think that I am one to lob cheap shots that are real and mean spirited in their intent.

Give the show a try. If you don't like it because you find me boring, crappy, whatever, that is fine and its all personal preference. If you take each and every thing I say as some veiled slight of ISU, that isn't my agenda and I won't be able to get into your noggin and change a level of bias that some of you are going to have towards me, because of the level of bias that you believe I am going to bring.

The reason Deace gets away with being critical is because he has established a relationship with most of the parties that he has to criticize now and then. And they know he has a job to do, and they don't always agree, just like Mac said on his show last week. But to criticize and lob bombs at people without having a relationship, that is when credibility from the fans really comes into question. I endeavor to establish real working relationships with the main players in Cyclone Athletics. I believe I have a good start with Jamie, am starting one with McCarney and will continue to reach out to the rest of the Cyclone Coaches.

News is news, and I will treat it as so. Opinion is opinion...entertainment is entertainment...those are three separate compartments.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Mr Miller,

When you and Marty spend part of your Sat. show wondering why Todd Blyth choose ISU over the Hawk
and then spend a 20 minute segment rehashing the Larry Euchtacy problems which happened 3-4 years
ago. I always here you talk negative about all the central Iowa teams and events. On one show you slammed the Senior Golf tourney (" can't wait to see the LPGA replace that event" The Iowa Stars Hockey " nobody
goes to those games and its bad hockey" But you admited that you didn't attend either of those events.
Why can't you both be more positive and supportive.
Just this Sat. you had a story about banned Prep schools and that Iowa had a kid from one of these schools,
but Marty has to throw ISU name into the story. "I think Iowa State has some kids from those schools also."
You open you mouth with out the facts.

This is why I don't like Marty. ISU fans get blamed for an Iowa obsession all the time, but when we call them on it we're "playing little brother". Who gives a crap if ISU has some shady prep school guys (even though they don't)? The issue is Malik Perry and him going to Philly Lutheran and that school getting banned by the NCAA.

Schools like Notre Dame Prep, Brewster, and Winchendon are completely different than Philly. In fact, when I saw Brackins had attended Boys to Men in Chicago, I got a little nervous about him until I saw he was going to Brewster. Those schools have a long educational history to go along with athletic history. Those are schools, whereas Philly is a diploma mill.

Jon, I really hope that you don't continue some "act" because it will create some "buzz". That sounds like you're going to be condescending to create noise to incite callers to pick up the phone. When people get pissed off and call sports talk radio stations the show is almost always crap. Deace said stuff I didn't like a lot, but I felt like he was sincere, so I understood it and appreciated it. If I feel like it's an "act", I'll quickly lose interest. If I wanted to hear a smarmy idiot, I would tune in at 11:00 next week instead of at 2:00.

I am just saying I think it would be a mistake for you to take this path Jon. People seemed to either hate or love Deace, but people also felt like they knew him and what he stood for. If you throw up smoke screens behind an artificial act, people will know. Then your show will suffer and you'll be subjected to half hour Tommy from Des Moines rants to fill airspace. And nobody wants that.

Again. Another talkjock named Miller coming on here to post a VERYLONG argument on how much he wants to reach out to Iowa State fans.

Complete with the requisite "please just give our show a try". Puke. Vomit. Gag.

Seriously. Do these guys have reminders pop up on their calendars every 5-6 days that says "Post On Every Cyclone Message Board to ask them to listen to the show"?

Pathetic

Many Hawkeye fans are resentful of any success Iowa State has and really find joy in its failures. It's easy to spot this, and you and your ilk have clearly been spotted.
