If it's really bad tell them you've had better at the state penitentiary.(Stupid rant, sorry)
This always seems like a weird question for a server to ask. Not sure why, but I always cringe at this common service question at restaurants. Other variations of simply checking in with their guests/customers are very welcome, but maybe asking how things are tasting is a little too personal to me. Not sure how to respond if something is not to my liking. Am I to say “not the best” or “could be better”? Just seems disingenuous to say “fine”, when it’s not and anything else just seems awkward. Help
I think the main intention is to check and make sure proteins are cooked to the right temperature and you have all the correct sides and such. I wouldn't tell them that the flavor is bland.(Stupid rant, sorry)

I don’t carry a meat thermometer with me.I think the main intention is to check and make sure proteins are cooked to the right temperature and you have all the correct sides and such. I wouldn't tell them that the flavor is bland.
You can't tell the difference between medium-rare and medium-well steak?I don’t carry a meat thermometer with me.
Sure. You said temperature, not degree of doneness. They’re related, but not the same thing. I know what you meant. You can't tell the difference between medium-rare and medium-well steak?

Last night the server was one of those touchy, feelly types. Every time she swung by she had to put her hand on my upper arm and then talk to us. Unless this is the backseat of the Greyhound, just ask the question.
