The last line she may never be able to use her hands or feet again. That's a shame. They'll just have to give her a huge straw next time she wants to get hammered.

Wasn't there someone in Iowa City recently that had the exact same thing happen to them?

If you are talking about the kid from last winter, both of these things were false rumors. He was in the hospital for a day and a half, but didn't lose any appendages.

I know a friend of the family in that case.

At least when she passed out she wasn't painted green and dressed as the Incredible Hulk.

Details, then?

From what I can remember, the kid passed out in an alley, and was there for quite some time. An officer at the scene said that he felt the kid would lose various fingers and toes. I think that's where the rumors got started.

After I read about it, a friend told me that his good friends were the parents of this kid, and they were devastated. They are from the Twin Cities, and I guess this kid was a normal, "keep you nose clean" type of kid.

They were less concerned with him losing fingers/toes, but doctors said that if he wasn't found in this alley by garbagemen when he was, he was about an hour away from dying. In the end, he walked out of the hospital with no permanent damage.

That's not what the official EIU news website said!

UI student suffered from frostbite (KPTM, Feb. 14)
Iowa City police say a UNIVERSITY OF IOWA student who passed out in an alley while walking home from the bars has lost fingers and toes to frostbite. Police believe he'd been in the alley for about six hours. It was 4 degrees when he was found. KPTM is a Fox affiliate in Omaha.

I also heard from a former bar-owner, who is still "close to the scene" and sensitive to possible litigation, that the "21" number was correct!

Who to believe?

I remember that. I wondered how the papers/media messed up so badly. I think it was because the initial officer said he thought the guy would lose fingers/toes, and the media took that to be official.

Unless the guy lost appendages days later, I know for a fact that he left the hospital a couple of days later with all fingers/toes/other bits!!

Here's the actual email I got from a close friend of the parents. The wife of my friend was with the kid's mom when she got the call notifying her of the incident.

As it turned out, he didn't lose any fingers or toes...but was 25 minutes
from death.

That's good that the IC kid didn't lose any parts. There were rumors running around that he lost all fingers, toes, twig, berries and a large portion of his rump.
