He hated how our fanbase wouldn't leave him alone when he was out with his family. He also soured on ISU after the Leath/Bubu incident.

Fred’s ego got pretty big too. He’s not blameless in the ISU relationship being a bit strained.

I HIGHLY doubt Fred hates ISU. I’m sure he feels similar to how our fan base feels about him - happy for what he did here and pretty “meh” about him after he left.

Was it just me? I liked his calm temperament. And his general dreaminess gave ISU a cool factor that it's never really had besides at that time. We did get a little bit of that back when that one sports writer said that TJ would win if all the NCAA basketball coaches fought.

I deleted that because I was afraid it would be misinterpreted. That wasn't meant as a shot at him in any way; he is who he is. I just meant that he never looked that comfortable or relaxed as the public face of the program. Like he didn't want the attention.

And I say that as someone who had direct experience with the public-facing role of his job. He just never looked like he enjoyed that part at all, and for better or worse it comes with the gig.

CW has been on the record several times Fred flirting with the Gophers job sundered that relationship on professional terms. They're still friends, but they don't want to work together again.

Is there any validity to Sam Hoiberg transferring and Fred leaving Nebraska? Or is this just a thread where someone lights a match and watch chaos ensue?

Just hearsay, but its plausible. Even if Fred held a grudge against ISU (which I doubt he does), he is friends with TJ, so if TJ wanted Sam and Sam wanted to go to Iowa State, I don't think Fred would try to dissuade him.

This makes sense and I agree with that. He wanted to coach. He didn't want to conduct press conferences. The people I know that know him, do all like him. Admittedly though, they do find him to be a bit socially awkward.

I’ve got a C note on the latter.

It seemed like it was pretty out there that Fred was sick of the Ames fishbowl and people fawning over him like he was God. Taking the Nebraska job was a pretty good clue that he isn't concerned one iota about how ISU fans feel or think about it.
Seemed like a good clue that he needed a head coaching job after his NBA shine wore off. Being sick of the fishbowl and hating ISU/ISU fans is quite the leap.

Have it on pretty good authority Fred has zero ill feelings towards Ames.

- The Minnesota issue was pushed by his assistants (cough Matt A. cough) because it would make recruiting a **** ton easier (remember all the Minnesota names they were in on) and at the time being the lowest paid Big 12 coach despite being one of the hottest names in college basketball.

- Prohm underperformed in ‘19 but won 3 games in a row so he got an extension. At this same time Hoiberg was offered $1.5 million per year than he ever got in Ames to go to Nebraska with very little program expectations.

- There is a reason Hoibergs deal with Nebraska has a buyout clause where if he left for a D1 school, it would cost that school multiple millions of dollars, but if he left anywhere else, it would be pennies on the dollar.

Are you saying you've heard this from somewhere other than the op of this thread?
