They need to definately do something. But I sure as hell hope there is never an Applebee's or Olive Garden in Campus town.

Yea, had to re-read that part the first time because I wasn't sure if i read it right, not sure i would be for that either. I would rather see those types of place go in up at the mall after its redevelopment.

Zmolek is the reason People's closed. He owed at least 6 months back rent/property taxes. Can't really blame the owners for wanting to get paid what they were owed.

From what I've heard, even he would have a hard time failing at Peoples on court given its' location.

We want recruits and parents basing their decisions on the success of a corner bar?

If you don't think potential students and their families are influenced by the neighborhood surrounding campus, you are naive. Whether it's a bar or not is irrelevant.

It is not good for the University for that area to look trashy, and that is obvious by the amount of resources ISU and the City of Ames have been looking to put into Campus Town redevelopment.

From what I heard from a student who frequents headliners is that they got in trouble by some other bar/restaurant out in Ohio that had trademarked the name.

Why they changed it to that ******* name is beyond me.

Whatever bar went into where Peoples was was doomed because it wasn't Peoples. It really didn't matter what the bar actually was. Now, with kids who know nothing of Peoples, they can succeed if they do it right.

What bars are still there and have the same name. Cys, Paddys, Sips, Mickey's? That it?

I guess it has something to do with CY hence "C"harlie "Y"okes. But I agree, its a pretty dumb name for a bar. Sounds more like a name of a breakfast restaurant.

The People's corner location would make an amazing sports bar. Unfortunately amazing sports bars can't make it on students looking to get **** faced for five dollars or less.

OK People's was before my time so I have no idea what it was. What made it so great? (not trying to be a smart***, just curious)

I visited Ames over the weekend and was surprised to learn that Headliners changed owners and is now called Charlie Yokes. This got me thinking about all of the bars in Ames that have changed ownership in the last year.
Headliners to Charlie Yokes
Capones to Club Blow to Five One Fifth (yeah 2 changes in ownership in a matter of months)
Sergeant Peppers to Cafe Mood (I think?)
Club Element to Big Shots
There might be more but those were the ones I could think of at the top of my head.

I remember my freshman year (2009) that everyone always talked about going to Headliners and it was the place to be. When I turned 21 and finally went to headliners it was always dead and it makes sense why the old owners sold off.

Bottom line, Ames's campustown bars has a terrible turnover. What is going on in campustown?

Wow, I graduated in 08 and apparently all the bars I went to are gone. No more Element? Nothing better than sitting on that patio drinking out of a $5 pitcher of rum and coke before stumbling home to Cyclone Plaza next door.

The problem is the "owners/managers" that run some of these places.
Mr. Hot Shot with daddy's money thinking he is going to be getting some tail because he "owns" a bar, quickly realizes his lack of business knowledge, self-control and ego get the best of him.
You cannot give out free drinks to good looking girls, sleep with them and then get ****** when they bring their friends, whom also want free drinks and do not want to wait in line. They eventually stop coming to your bar. OR having after hours, 4 nights a week, giving drinks away to show off how much money you have (can't say I complained while in school!).

This. It can't be that hard to run a decent bar can it? It seems to me that lately that new bar owners don't do anything different then the last owner and expects to succeed. I'm sorry but with the exception of Sips/Paddy's, Five One Fifth, and Cy's, I have been very disappointed with Campustown's bars since I have turned 21.
