She just cleared 6-foot-1 at the drake relays in the high jump. Ridiculous athlete, so glad she chose volleyball here at Iowa State. It's the highest jump in the nation this year.

is she a Outside hitter or a middle?

She's an OH, but can probably be a serviceable sub in the middle, but they certainly aren't recruiting her to be a MB. Sad thing is that her best performance on the track last year as a junior, let alone this year as a senior, would make her one of the top perfomers on the ISU team. She's high jumped 6' 1", ran 11.96 for the 100, 24.49 for the 200 and 54.68 for the 400. And she told John Walters at the Drake Relays post high jump presser she would not be running track at ISU in addition to VB.

I heard she turned down the chance to run track at Stanford and UCLA in favor of playing Volleyball at Iowa State.

She comes from the same high school as former Cyclone Wide Receiver Lane Danielsen.

Awesome. I was unaware how athletic she is. I cannot wait for VB season. I would argue VB may be our strongest sport right now. Final Four in K.C. Dare to dream.

Good for the volleyball team. I am sad she won't be jumping but better to save the scholy for someone that will devote all their efforts to track. I can't wait for the history that will be written by our volleyball team in the near future.

She set a state record for all classes today in the 400m dash breaking a record from the 1980's. She will most likely win the 200m dash, and the high jump in her class too. She had the fastest qualifying time in the 200m by over a second.

She won't need to play MH with the two studettes we have tere just being junior and sophomore. What we will need after this season is someone to replace Vic who is a senior. Since VB plays a spring exhibition season, its good she won't be doing track. If she wants, she could still get a couple of seasons of track in after her VB eligibility is up.

I was going to correct you , but then I realized you were right. :) She only gets one extra year of eligibility to run track, but she could also do both VB and track as a senior given that she wouldn't do spring VB activities that year. That equals two years of track if she wanted.

please someone tell me she is as good at volleyball as she is at track and field!
Three-time elite team all-stater in volleyball at Dike-New Hartford.

On a positive sidenote, Taylor Twedt, who basically has come in 2nd her entire career to Willms (Twedt's 5-foot-10 high jump at Drake Relays is tied for fourth in the state's all-time history,) is an Iowa State track commit.

If anyone remembers Texas' outside hitter Destinee Hooker, she is also a great track star. Earlier this year the Cyclone VB twitter page had this post...

"Did you know that future ISU outside hitter Hannah Willms has jumped higher as a prep (6-1) than UT's Destinee Hooker did (6-0.5)? NICE!

5:29 PM May 11th via TweetDeck"

This is just outstanding for Hannah when you consider Hooker is an Olympic caliber track star, who is also a great outside hitter for Texas.

Somewhere in the U.S.
If she is jumping this as a senior in high school.....I would think the Olympic team might be in her future. The world record for women's high jump is like 6 10 something. The U.S. record is around 6 8 I think. If not for 2012, maybe 2016. With proper coaching and training....who knows? Just a thought.
