Is Monty not going to be passing the torch to somebody who wants to buy the shop? That's too bad. I always enjoyed getting my hair cut there when I was a student.

I have to put a plug in for The Groom Room on Main St. Troy (the owner) does a wonderful job and it's one of the few hair places that focuses on male haircuts but are still able to do more than an 'army cut'. He also teaches wet shave clinics, which I highly recommend. I think it's $17 for a haircut now but that includes a neck shave. Changed to him from Monty a bit over a year ago and would never go back.

The wife cuts my hair and has for 4 years now. I cant justify paying 15 bucks or more for a simple haircut. She has gotten pretty good over the years.

I used to go to Hair Mechanics over in west Ames but I just go to Great Clips now. I go to the same girl there everytime and its only like $14.65 which is way reasonable.

Takes me 10 minutes and 0 dollars to cut my own hair. Haven't paid for a haircut in the last 12 years. Grow a pair, use a mirror, and get some clippers.

Probably the worst advice ever.

Not really. I depends on how you like your hair. I like mine short and one length. I too bought clippers 9 years ago and have only paid for one hair cut since (wedding). Saves me over $200 a year. It's not for everyone but it is far from the worst advice ever.

Explain how this is bad advice. Unless you want layered hair, or some fancy haircut, using your own clippers is the only way to go.

If you want only one length. Most guys have it shorter on the sides and longer on top, that would be fairly hard to blend it yourself.

 Not only saves some money, but also the time and hassle of going to get your hair cut. I've cut my own hair for 5 or 6 years now.
