Just wanted to see if anyone on here played Guitar and had some suggestions on what strings would be good.

I've had my guitar for a few years now and and taught myself to play. I've never had any help with the difference between strings and what is best/not so good. I've been using Elixir just becasue they are what I can find easiest, but does anyone have any suggestions?

I use Elixir strings I think they're the best, but that's my opinion. Also there are different strength strings. 9 Gage strings are easier to bend and don't hurt you figures as much as the higher gage. The gage numbers go up and as they go up they get tougher to play on and are harder to bend.

Since you mention Elixir, then I'm assuming you mean acoustic strings. In that case, I've used what you use and like them the best as well. I have a Martin D-15, tried Martin specific strings, and they just don't match up to the Elixir strings. Also, I like the coating on the strings for easy sliding and comfort.

I think what strings you want really depends on what guitar you have, especially if it's an acoustic guitar. Some acoustics naturally have a brighter tone, and some are a bit more mellow. To add to that, everyone has a different opinion about what the perfect tone is, so the best way to find the strings you'll like the most is to try as many kinds as you can (although that can get a bit expensive).

For acoustic I use D'dardio or Martins (standard or SPs). They are both fairly inexpensive, and I haven't been able to tell a ton of difference in tone between them and the Elixers. I have a couple acoustics, and for the larger-bodied I use phosphor bronze lights (12 gauge). They have a really good balanced tone. For the smaller-bodied guitar I use 80-20s (also lights), because they add that extra projection that you just can't get with the phosphor bronze. If you play acoustic often, you could probably get medium gauge (i think they are 13s), as it adds a little bit of sound, but I play mostly electric, so my fingers don't like more than a couple hours of playing on medium acoustic strings.

For electric, I play a strat and I always use Elixer nanoweb 10s. I've tried a lot of strings, and none of them have the longevity or the tone that the elixers do. They are a bit expensive than some strings, but you won't have to change them very often at all (probably every 4-6+ months if you aren't gigging).

Hopefully this helps a bit, but like I said before, the best way to find the strings you like the most is to try them. Good luck

Always was a big fan of Elixirs, but I'm thinking about maybe making a switch to D'addrio's because I have a serious problem with always breaking the G string (dead serious)

I use Elixers. Nanoweb 80/20 bronze, light gauge.

The only strings I have ever used, and what the guys at Pro Music Center recommend that I use.

ernie ball super slinky

Ernie balls for electric are one the better one's I found, and reasonable in price as well. I've tried the B-52's and like them alright as well.

I will say, Pro Music Center is the only place I go to buy. I may look other places, but only buy from Trent. Good man, good store.
