Good idea. PS3 is overrated IMO. Wait til there is a better library of games before buying.

Saying there isn't a good library of games for PS3 now is just ignorant. Most of the games are out on each system, and the PS3 exclusive list keeps growing. Plus if you have an HD T.V., the Blu-Ray playback is a MUST!

By the way..I got Metal Gear Solid 4 the day it came out, it is by far and away the best game I've EVER played.

And...just to keep this post relevant to the thread...Rock Band kicks a$$. Plus the PS3 has an integrated Rock Band store within the game. Pretty cool.

OK. So for now, for my most bang for my buck, I think I'll buy GHIII and one wireless controller for the PS2. That should be hours of enjoyment, right?

I'd say absolutely! The original GH in my opinion has the best soundtrack, but III is good as well. If you want to buy a wireless controller, just be sure to try and find some reviews on it. I know that everyone has a story about how their wireless controller sucks but there definitely are some out there that do not perform as well as others

Best Buy has a game and wireless controller combo pack. Mixed reveiws on the controller, though. Sometimes, when dealing this technology, I wonder how many people are just too dumb to work the thing and then rate it low.

:biglaugh: I've definitely read more than a few of
This controller doesn't ever work I push the buttons but fail every song!

Really the only thing to note is that the controller is going to operate at the 2.4GHz that pretty much all wireless technologies run on. So the more routers and cordless phones you have around, the more interference you're going to experience. Make sure you've got a clear shot from the controller to the receiver as well

Exactly my point, most games come out for both systems and to date the multiplatform games have looked/played as well or better on Microsoft's supposedly "inferior" machine. NCAA Football 08, anyone? Why would I buy a more expensive machine for games that aren't any better, and in some cases worse? Throw in the fact that Microsoft has a fantastic library of exclusives and it makes the decision a lot easier.

That being said, I do think there are some good exclusives for the PS3. Resistance, Uncharted, and Motorstorm, to name a few. I will not pass judgement on MGS4, as I have not played it yet.

I am not trying to be THAT guy and I know this has been said before, but here goes anyway.

Consider buying a REAL guitar and learning to play it. If you are that motivated to rock out perhaps you will learn to play and end up gaining a life time of enjoyment out of music instead of using your time to play a freakin video game.

Some people enjoy freakin video games more. Nothing wrong with that.

I did a total 180 on this topic today -- And ordered the Rockband Special Edition Combo Pack as suggested by Dmclone. I did more research and I think this game is more likely to get my wife and visitors involved and playing for something to do at social occasions. I haven't told her I bought it. I'm just going to wait for it to show up on our doorstep and tell her I bought "us" a present. I know once she sees there is a drum set and guitar, she'll be in love with the game.

If you've had any experience using the GH guitars, the RB guitar is a lot different and IMO sucks pretty hard. Also, I've heard of the pedal from the drum set snapping off quite a bit, just be wary

Your right. When we have people over they are always wanting to go downstairs and play rock band. What's great is when they get drunk and start singing.

I read every review I could read. I have not played GH so I don't have anything to compare. In the reviews I read, some said the GH guitar was better and some other like the RB guitar. And as far as durability, I think I'll just keep in mind that all of these items are toys and not meant to be beaten on with the full force of say, a real drum set.

My real decision maker here was the ability to get more people involved at once. RB gives that right out of the box.

BOOO! BOOO! I'm not a fan of this post. This thread wasn't started to weight the options of playing a video game vs. playing a real guitar. If you want to talk real guitars, start a new thread.

I'm thinking about getting this game. A few questions for you gaming experts out there (I used to be one before the kid):

- I have a PS2. Are the latest games still coming out for PS2? Or, maybe a better question is what is the best version I can buy for PS2?
- I see there is a wireless controller or wired controller. I would prefer to be wireless but I read some bad reviews on Best Buy.com about the wireless controller. Which is best?
- Lastly, if I get a PS3 later, can I use the same controller?

I think this might be the first game ever that my wife would play too. I can actually see this being fun for social occasions too.

We had a sony spokesperson come to our store last week (I work at best buy) and she said sony has no intention on stopping production of the PS2 or PS2 games for the next couple of years because it is their highest revenue builder behind the PS3. Also, I would highly suggest getting rock band, it is only 99.99 right now (versus 159.99 as it's origanal price) at best buy. Not sure how long this deal will last but you should take advantage of it.

Also, I believe the bundle kit for GH for PS2 costs 79.99, so you are only paying 20 more dollars for the additional drums and microphone. Also, rock band is constantly coming out with new songs that can be downloaded via internet connection.

Yeah, that is what I wanted. I don't need the guitar to feel "real". If I wanted that, I would buy a guitar and learn to play. I just wanted a way to get people involved and doing something when we have visitors or a party rather than playing board games or just sitting around listening to music. Why not make your own music. And, yes, the singing part doesn't appeal to me now, but wait until after a few drinks.

Yep, that is what I just bought RB Bundle. Has the works. It even has a USB hub, I'm told, so you don't need to buy one yourself. I paid $99 with free shipping. Sounds like a lot of fun for $99. If my wife and I go out to eat and then to a bar for a few drinks, we'd spend that.

I don't know if anyone is in the market but this seems like a good deal.

Rock Band Special Edition for Sony PlayStation 2 - Electronic Arts - Toys "R" Us

At toysrus.com they are running a promotion for the PS2 version of Rockband. If you put Rockband and a PS2 in your cart the PS2 will drop down in price from $129.99 to $39.99. Don't forget the 5 off 25 coupon code 922562. Bringing the total price down with shipping and before tax to $153.22. Save an extra $15.00 if you use the bill me later option.
