Seems like an appropriate topic for Father's Day.

I just got a new grill and I'm proficient with the steak, hamburger and hot dog but I want to go beyond and broaden my grilling repertoire. (bbq ribs, smoking, etc.)

Does anyone recommend any websites or books that would give me some new techniques and recipes?

These two websites give some free recipes that could get you started on ribs, etc. Also, the food channel has grill offs on tv pretty frequently that can at least give you some ideas to get going. Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy whose wife doesn't really like anything spicy wise so my options are kind of limited unless I want to do two different things when I grill (in which case I'd better make darn sure that my spicy stuff doesn't touch her non-spicy or I'm a goner :no6xn:).

Bobby Flay has a good grilling book out, and Alton has done some cool howtos on grilling. I usually just try it and see how it goes.

Two things I have learned, no sugar sauces till the end, like bbq sauce.

And in the immortal words from Ramone from cars... low and slow baby.

As far as books go....i like some of the books by Weber....one is called "the big book of grilling", i forget the name of the other, both have good tips and good recipes. Also, the Barbeque Bible series are nice, with lots of variety. There is an illustrated book in that series, which is good for allowing you to see new techniques - nice for beginners

As far as websites go...not sure i can help you much there. I grill with a Big Green Egg, and the techniques are different compared to a convention gas or charcoal grill. But, fwiw...i visit the nakedwhiz.com and biggreenegg.com forums

Hope that helps

edit...had to look it up...the other book i was thinking of is "Weber's Real Grilling"
