I don't think the Drake game was a terrible loss. The team played an in-state rival during their first road game of the season in their second game of the season. If we lost to Drake later in the season I think it would be a worse loss.

You're rationalizing. It was to an average MVC team = bad loss. Losing at home to UNI = bad loss.

We were totally unfocused and thought we could waltz into Drake's gym and walk away with a "W". By the time the players realized they were in a game, it was too late.

Granted ... we are a much better team now and I "don't think" it would happen again. But we squeaked by Miss Valley St not that long ago.

At the time I was livid with the Drake loss.
But now, I feel a lot better about losing our second game of the season in a small uninspiring gym than losing to UNI at home in front of a large Cyclone crowd.

People need to stop hanging on the Drake and UNI losses. They are in the past. We still control our own destiny, this team can make the tournament if they play well enough to do so. Lots of Big 12 play left to make a statement

Being talked about is much better than not being talked about. In the end national analysts' opinions matter little so I just enjoy the free pr.

In general we haven't really proven anything yet from a national perspective, but have put ourselves in a position to be able to do that in the next five games. The next five games will really make or break the season. As the last 7, for the most part, are either very winnable or pretty difficult.

I think it's going to take more than beating Kansas and finishing above .500 in the Big 12 to get to the dance this year. The selection committee doesn't look kindly on teams with that soft of a non-conference slate, let alone one who lost games with an easy slate.

My guess is ISU will have to finish around 12-6 in the Big 12 with at least two wins over a ranked team. That's still well within the range of possibility but it doesn't leave a lot of margin for error.

Never said it would get ISU in the dance...I was responding to the comment that someone made they were tired of people bringing up the Drake loss and I said KU win will negate that. Right now most believe that is the only bad loss on our resume. If UNI ends up being a bad loss as well we will probably need another legit win (KSU, MU, BU) to negate that along with beating the teams we should.

That's really not true though. Sure it would be great to get a couple of quality wins but the selection committee needs to pick 38 at large teams somehow. Once you get down to the last 5 or 6 at large, they all have flaws in their resumes. They either don't have any good wins are they have some really bad losses. If we didn't have a chance without any good wins, no one would be projecting us in the field right now and just about all the projections have us in or just out.

Name one tournament team that wasn't an automatic qualifier without any quality wins. You've got hundreds of teams to pick from in history so if your assertion is correct, it shouldn't be hard to find one.

The people who are projecting ISU to be in the field are thus projecting ISU to get a few quality wins to finish out the year.

I don't make many guarantees, but if ISU doesn't beat one of Kansas, Baylor, or Kansas State I will guarantee you that they aren't making the tournament.

I agree. They are not near as bad as some people think they are. Winning in Norman will be tough, but I don't see them beating us in Hilton.

Exactly. Tournament teams consider losing to Drake and UNI bad losses.

Sometimes we compare our success, to our past. We should be comparing it to the rest of the tournament field.

Won't make tourney is an opinion. ISU controls own destiny.
White is a beast.
Losing to a bottom feeder on road is an opinion. Understandable after struggling at home against OSU.
Drake and UNI losses are bad.
The good thing is, ISU controls their own destiny.

But saying we will need 22 wins going into the big 12 tourney isn't true. We didn't get close to that last time we made the tournament, and we got in with a decent seed. And was our non conference schedule any tougher then? I don't think it was. If we have 22 wins going into the conference tourney, we're not talking about if we get in, we're talking about what seed we will get.
