Gottlieb's ISU comments

Wait...he made these comments today?

He does realize we've already played 2 of the 4 league "bottom feeders" on the road and beat them by 24 points each, right?

Not sure how somebody is supposed to take the rest of his opinions of our team seriously when he makes a comment as stupid as that one.
 
He's pretty much right on except for the bit about losing to the bottom feeders on the road (though a win at GIA is always tough to get). And, of course, at this point no one really knows what the tournament will look like.

From a defensive standpoint, Babb can usually shut his guy down, but we are terrible against low post players. Royce gets out of position and we've been bad about bringing weak side help. There have been a lot of bunnies for opposing bigs. This is the game plan for opposing teams at this point... expose our weakness defending down low.

I'd say he has about a 30-40% chance of nailing all 5 predictions (counting the Oklahoma schools as bottom feeders). Pretty good for an ESPN talking head.

Our defense has improved greatly to reach mediocrity. I agree with him that they are very passive, but I don't think that's always a bad thing.

our defense still breaks down at times, but one third of the way through Big12 play our defense ranks 3rd in the league, if we can come close to maintaining that, I'll be very happy

Hopefully Cyclone Nation isn't taking him seriously. Anybody who isn't Kansas in the B12 doesn't get much love even with the seasons that Baylor and Misery are having. So we have some proving to do, we've done it before (Eustachy era)
 
I used to be a big Gottlieb fan but he's really become a know-it-all. During one of the halftime shows on Saturday he sat there and rolled his eyes and shook his head the whole time Andy Katz was talking and then argued every point. He looked like a teenager arguing with his parents, just for the sake of arguing. You could tell Katz was thinking "WTF, dude."

Agree, I use to like Cowherd a bunch before he got the big push from ESPN. Gottlieb got horrible once he had to talk about sports outside of college basketball.
 
Can't take anything he says seriously after his road losses comment..pretty sure in conference we've played better on the road than at home. 2 blow outs and had kansas on the ropes...yeah, I don't think much(any) effort was put into research before opening his mouth.

We beat KU on Saturday and they will. Big win >>> bad loss.

If I was Fred, I would put these comments up in the locker room before our game on Saturday. Not that Gotlieb is wrong with his statements, but proving him wrong could make this team play a full 40 minutes.
 
gottlieb is great. he really knows the game, talks about it from a players perspective, and he does his homework. AND he actually has an opinion, which is great. don't have to agree with him all the time.

he's really engaging on twitter, going back and forth with fans. i think he just says stuff to get under fans' skin.

Or maybe he was being sarcastic about struggling to bad teams on the road..saying that following our 2nd blowout on the road is either sarcastic or stupid.
 
His comments about the defense do not make a lot of sense. I think ISU is sometimes weak on the interior by giving up too many easy bunnies, but the stats do not make it appear that they are letting teams do whatever they want.

In conference games only, ISU is 3rd in the conference in scoring defense, 1st in 3 point fg defense, and 3rd in overall fg defense. They are also first in defensive rebounding.

Right now, I think it is too early to say if the UNI or Drake losses are bad losses. The Valley only has 2 good teams this year, so even if those teams finish in the top half of the league.......it may not mean that much.

Agree with this completely, I think he is just falling behind on his research. Or his interns are falling behind.
