Has anybody tried it? It looks good but I'm not sure how this compares to Lucullan's. Would it be ok to take a date there? Any info appreciated!

Great place for a date. I've gotten to know the owners. Love the place.

The food is excellent but the service is just as great

I prefer this place to Luccullan's, the food is just as good (if not better) imo and the prices are more reasonable. Plus the owners are really nice.

Absolutely love this place. Great food and service, and definitely quiet enough for a date. Weekends can get busy and thus louder, but still worth it.

A hiddem gem. A lot better than Lucullans in my opinion. Other recommendation for a date would be the Cafe in Somerset especially for a date night. Ambience is a little better at the Cafe.

Pretty much what everyone else said. Quality is as good or better than Lucallan's with much more reasonable prices. Owners and staff are always very friendly. We used to go there monthly to have their specialty anchovy (Classico) pizza. It's not on the menu any more, but they'll still make it for you if you like that kind of thing!

Ge'Angelos is very good. We don't get there as often as we probably should because honestly, unless you live on the north side, its location makes it less convenient than some of the other places in town. It's funny, we've been going there for probably ten years, but the first time I've ever had their pizza was less than a year ago. I'd hear it was good, but I always end up ordering something else.

I have to agree with everyone else. One of the best places in Ames. Great food and the service goes above and beyond to make sure you're satisfied. I went to Lucallan's once and was underwhelmed...Geangelos is better.

I haven't been there since i moved out of Ames four years ago so i don't know if the menu has changed but the meat ravioli with marinara was excellent

^^Ditto this. And it's nice and quiet, sort of a dark atmosphere. Has a great feel for an Ames restaurant.

Good food. Always forget it is there but has been excellent the times I have gone. Service has been above average too.

Agree that it is better food than Luccullan's. Did that place's owners just say to hell with it and decide to give up around ten year's ago? Seems like a place that has coasted on its reputation for way too long.

My dad went to High school with the owner's there so we always get awesome service. Took several dates there in college and had great experiences (don't tell the dates that, they always thought I had never taken anyone there:twitcy:)

Two thumbs up from me too. Although the new Italian place opening in Somerset is being opened by the chef from GeAngelo's. I don't know if he is still there, but most of the dishes I've had have been great, and I had an Italian gramma cooking for me most of my life.

For those of you who've been there what's your favorite item from their menu?

I am a big fan of alfredo, so I'll usually get their fettucine alfredo. I will say that the best alfredo in Ames, though, is at Olde Main.
