The Iowa wrestler fans that I know are all calling for Brands’ head right now. It will be interesting to see how the NCAAs go this week.

Side note: in that podcast with Gable he talks about his favorite teammate being Chris Taylor and how Taylor would make him laugh in practice. I cannot imagine Gable laughing in practice but it’s a funny image. Chris Taylor was not human.

Yes, he did. Giving all due respect to Gable and his success, we do need to realize that a lot of credit should go to Kurdelmeier. He made the moves to lay the foundation for future success. He was the head coach when they won that first national title, and was then replaced by Gable.
Iowa wasn’t terrible, just not a national power. McCuskey prior to Gary also helped Iowa. Kurdelmeier had Iowa set up way better when he was forced to step down than Douglas had Iowa State

My father always told me it was 4,000$ they would not pay Gable as an assistant. No idea if it is true or not but he always maintained that was the reason he left.
