Next week is Spring Break at ISU. What was your best spring break, or what are you doing this spring break?

Linn-Mar is moving to this model next year. Growing up (well eighth grade on I believe) it was nearly a two week spring break with the week before being boys basketball tournament meaning at least two if not three trips to Des Moines.

Senior year of college my then soon to be wife's grandparents took the entire family on a Caribbean cruise. Worked out it was the week before ISU's spring break so we had to get a lot done including moving a couple of tests up to go but it was a great time.

This year we are staying at home as usual. With a newborn and saving time off for other things this year it wasn't going to work. Probably will be light days working wise with others out so I am sure I will spend plenty of time with the family and thankfully the weather is looking good.

Best spring break…as juniors in high school, a group of us went to Branson, MO. Yep…Branson. We stayed in a cabin on Table Rock. This cabin was like something straight out of the Evil Dead movies. In the old school refrigerator (white fridge with spring loaded hinge handles), we had nothing but a few hot dogs, mustard and about 20 cases of beer (had a friend who worked at a Citgo back then, and we used to give him money for a couple cases, then lift a few more out the back. Heathens, I know). Anyway…we got kicked out of every single go kart track down there, hooked up with some girls dance group (you know…like a high school dance team) from Kansas City and had a blast in town. Neighbor cabin was a few older guys…probably in their 20’s, I’d say, and they were pretty cool. Anyway…not much other than that, but it was great to get away somewhere with the guys, no parents (looking back, I can’t believe they all let us go) and just let loose. Not sure how we all got out of there without being arrested.

This year…nothing but watching dogs for family members who are doing fun things…while we watch their dogs :). I will be taking Thursday and Friday off work next week to sit back and watch basketball like I do every year, but that pretty much it.

Senior Year of college friends and I loaded up 3 cars and rented a beach front house in Panama City Beach. Hell of a good time. There was also this one bar that was like part concert venue, multi level, 6 dance floors and stuff. Spinnakers? That was a fun bar.

Only bad part about the whole week was us losing to UAB and there was a group of their fans at whatever bar that tried to pick a fight with us.

This was our view from the back deck of the house

We found another Iowa State crew and made a pong table in the sand that the cops came over and told us to remove it. Apparently you're not allowed to dig, only build up.

The only spring break trip I had was going to Mesa, Arizona to visit my grandparents. They lived in a retirement community so I mainly went to garage sales with my grandpa (he loved garage sales). We did get to go to a spring training Cubs game. Most of my spring breaks were spent in the cold or mud helping my dad get the planter ready for the spring.

This year I'll probably take a day off and take the kids to the science center or something, but otherwise try and get caught up on work stuff.

I never really got into spring break. My grade schools did not have spring breaks which the nice thing about that was we were out for the summer a week earlier than most schools. In college the most I did for any of the spring breaks was go back and forth between Ames and Minneapolis in 2000 for the men's and women's basketball tournament otherwise I tried to get in 40 hours of work back home to put a little extra $ in the account to finish off the school year with.

Best college breaks were honestly when I would go home and relax, fish, whatever.

Went to Panama City once with friends and it just wasn't worth it.

Another trip to Colorado was fun though.

There was a big group of us that always did Habitat for Humanity on spring break. Certainly got in our share of partying, but worked off the hangovers during the day.

One of my friends always tried to get people to go to Alaska with him to work at one of those fish hatcheries they advertised for on bulletin boards around campus. "We can make a bunch of money AND get to see Alaska!". Not sure if he ever actually did it

Did Chicago St. Paddy's for Spring Break when I was 20 with older relatives because they were like there's zero chance you won't be able to get served. They were 100% correct.

In college Spring Break = extra hours to work to pay tuition.

Now it’s spent grading and making sure I’m ready to submit mid term grades.

Next week I’ll be learning a new DNA manipulation technique that I’ll be able to use for research this summer with my students (Gibson assemblies).

Manipulation of DNA to get an extra inch seems rather risky. Just accept what God gave you;)

My favorite Spring Break was probably when my parents threw all of us kids in the van and drove to Orlando for the week. I was in 2nd grade at the time. Went to Disney World, Sea World, and NASA along with a bunch of Royals Spring Training games when they still were in Florida.
