In San Antonio for the bowl game I did the Alamo tour and got to see the basement.
I'm retired. And the guy who was my co-worker... we had similar jobs, somewhat overlapping. Covered for each other when the other was off work.
Sadly, he retired a few years after me. Then there was some kind of serious spousal issue (I never did learn the specifics). He spent the overnight locked in his basement alone. Then shot himself in the head. Everyone who knew him could not believe it. He was a very logical and in control person. I think the fact that everything he'd spent his last 40 years working towards (family) was being taken away was too much and he snapped. I still have a tough time believing it happened.
That's the fourth person I've known fairly well in life that committed suicide. Three of them were over marital/significant other crises.
So, no the tours are not available...
We took a tour of a salt mine at Hutchison Kansas. A lot of the rock salt that goes on our roads comes from there. Since the salt absorbs moisture, the use part of it for record storage and storage of some old Hollywood filmstock and movie props.
Toured the Soudan underground iron ore mine in NE Minnesota back in the mid 80's. Very cool IMO. This type of mine predated the current open pit type mines that are currently in operation. Operation goes back to the early 1900's. Take rickety "elevator" 1/2 mile underground at 72 degree angle. Kinda freaky. It was interesting imaging working in that environment. U of M has some underground laboratories there.

I did the bunker tour at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia. That was quite interesting. That bunker was secretly built for congress and the president to stay in case in nuclear war.
Many years ago we toured the Omaha Zoo, had really big pythons. By chance, did you get a hug from them? heh
My first week as an intern, I had to sit on a conference room floor with the 16-foot 130 pound Burmese Python, alone, while the keepers cleaned its enclosure.
Me- “That thing could kill me”
Keepers- “We fed it a rat already so it won’t be hungry”
Me- “It’s got a taste for blood! That’s just an appetizer!”
Serious question, not being snarky: What evidence links these bones to the historical character? I'm highly curious. Thanks.
Is that Seattle underground tour a good one for kids? Going out there in July and may tack that onto the list
Not something I would normally seek out, or pay for, but just so happens that I once got a guided tour of Carver-Hawkeye's seamy underbelly while attending a friend's surprise birthday party because their son was working there at the time.

Got a Tarzan movie story for you. Gordon Scott, cast as Tarzan, thought he could wrestle a 16-foot python without a problem. Scott was a Mr. Universe or something like that.
So, reticulated pythons have been measured at a length of 33 feet. And this one was only half that size. I"ve seen photos that show Scott on the ground after the constrictor overpowered him.
GMack, I gotta ask, did you haul your big python back to the enclosure?

Darren McGavin in the 1970s show The Night Strangler starred in an episode filmed in the Seattle underground. As best I can recall, it was highly interesting.
Is that episode available to watch today? I do not know. If it is, it would likely give you a feel for that tour.
Think it would depend on the age.
My kids would probably rather see the gum wall, but they are pretty young.
