Thanks so much to @JP4CY for this one!!

40th anniversary today of Ferris Bueller's day off from school. The literal day.

Did you ever play hooky from school? What is your favorite day? What did you do?

If not school, how about work, or something else?

If it counts as playing hooky I made myself throw up in 1st or second grade to watch ISU in the NCAA tournament (I knew if I puked I would get sent home no matter what).

Other than skipping classes out of laziness and lack of interest in college I did skip a class to go to Fred's introductory presser.

I'm legitimately interested in what others do in regards to work and hooky. I get 17 days of vacation plus 7 days of sick time every year. Both roll over.

I always tell myself "I should just call in sick one of these days and take a day off randomly." But I can never bring myself to do it. I think it's because A) I've always got things that rely on me so I feel like I'm putting more on others just so I can get a free day off and B) I can't bring myself to lie to people when they would ask "Are you feeling better after being sick yesterday?"

What do other people do?

Tell them you have explosive diarrhea. No one will ask about that.

They were planned absences but in May I had planned a camping trip up north for a long weekend.

The combination of bad weather forecast, pending work and 'life' stuff got me frazzled just trying to pack for whatever reason. Something isn't right if going on the trip feels stressful.

So I took a staycation and it was fantastic.

OG Night Court was on IFC one day in the rotation as an added bonus.

My senior year of HS me and a couple buddies skipped the three Fridays in early 1997 to go watch the Star Wars Special Editions in the theaters. Called it our Senior Skip Days.

I get 27 days, including "floating holidays" every year, but I can't roll them over. Let me tell you December gets really interesting trying to find people, including myself.

I am fortunate to be a person who rarely gets sick. In my 16 year career, I bet I haven't used 20 sick days. So, it's basically not a benefit to me, thus far. I know the definition of "sick" can be pretty broad and employers can't ask if it's less than a few days (or whatever the policy is). But man, I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger. I keep thinking "oh, I woke up with a little headache, I should call that a sick day." Or, "I'll call this a mental health day." But I can't seem to do it.

I went to a Catholic high school and we had to do x amount of service hours, but no one really tracked it all that close.

We also had a college style schedule where you would sometimes have a couple hours of open time in the day that you could go to study hall, or catch up on service hours, or whatever.

So we would sign out saying we were going to the Red Cross for service hours (which we legitimately did to get our hours in) and just go to my buddy's house and play video games for a few hours before heading back to class. His parents both worked outside the home and had no idea.

The day before Thanksgiving, we'd have a super shortened schedule where we'd get off at noon, but every period was only 10 minutes long, so we would tailgate in the parking lot and get drunk off of Hooper's Hooch and then spend the super short school day blitzed.
