Generally Spyware comes with popups for good spyware removal tools. Just click on one of those, and it will route you to a good solution.:jimlad:

Dont mess around with the free spyware. Every free one I have tried didnt help and some made the problems worse. I have been happy with Spyhunter.

Free spyware tools are the best spyware tools, IMO.

I have seen so many machines crippled by the pay-for vendors it's absurd.

You really do need to figure out what you've got first, though to get real utility out of them.

SDFix and Combofix are good generic tools as well.

This is correct here, I have never seen a pay for spyware tool that actually out performed the free ones.

I recommend Malwarebytes.org It does a great job, Also mentioned above was super antispyware is also a good one but I prefer malware bytes to it

spybot is the official one used by ISU IT dept and is free and open source so no ulterior motives there. I have used it with success.

Also make damn sure you have all the critical updates from microsoft.

Not just microsoft anymore:no:

Even Acrobat Reader has been having critical security issues patched recently.

Not extensively pursuing the Crystal Defanti video will help avoid problems as well.

My sister got the "anti-virus virus" today and I've been helping her with it by running MBAM. It seemed to do a thorough sweep, detecting 8 files on the full scan, and I immediately started a second scan just to be sure. My question is- After I got the logfile of trojans removed, it said the computer had to restart, as expected. I restarted the computer and when it was booting back up I got a message that windows could not start properly, so I selected "restore to last working point" or whatever. It started up again fine, but MBAM was gone so I had to download it again from malwarebytes. Is this reboot error common? We're running Vista (unfortunately) if that makes a difference. Thanks.
