Never even heard of it, and for me, that's saying something. I can only find a couple of references to it, all from people's written memories of ISU in the 1970s.

What/when was it?

It was an all day concert at the Arb, the field north of Cap-Timm baseball field, with local bands. There were some vendors there. It was a beer drinking, frisbee throwing, hacky sackin,pot-smoking?(not me), good time. I have no idea who organized it, but it was a ton of fun.

Sounds like a bunch of Hippie stuff.

...I probably would have enjoyed it.

At least the hippie girls I saw there shaved their pits and their legs. So I guess they would be pseudo-hippie chicks?

I am pretty sure this hasn't happened for several years. I came to ISU as an undergrad in '98 and have never really heard anything about it.

I did talk to one guy (don't remember his name) who was trying to orgranize something similar to this at People's. It turned into an all day concert of local bands. Pretty cool, but not quite the environment I think he was going for. My band got the shaft and we played 1st at like 10 in the morning. Needless to say the only people that were there were friends and family.

Not that it wouldn't be cool now, but something like this wouldn't fly anymore with all the problems that have happened with VEISHA.

"Hippies - Hippies... they want to save the world, but all they do is lay around smoking weed and playing frisbee...."

Damned Hippies!

There it is....

I think Freak Week originated in '76 or '77. I'm pretty sure it was sandwiched between Greek Week and Veisha. That was a long time ago so it's hard to remember the details outside of the fact that it started as an all day free concert in the arboretum aimed at those not associated with the Greek system and not living in the residence halls.

North of the diamond? You mean south of it? Knapp Street borders the SWAC on the north, and there's bunches of houses and apartments there. I assume you mean the (now) abandoned field down past the old outdoor track and tennis courts (and whatever the hell else is out there being overgrown by weeds).

I believe it's the area west of SWAC, bordered by Sheldon (E), Arbor (N) and State (W). They've cut the XC course through there.

It was North, The baseball field had a parking lot to the north, then there was a big hill that led down to a creek and the open field. Sometimes we would go rolling down the hill after the bars and make bets on who tossed first. Sounds like it might be developed. I'm pretty sure the street that was to the east was Knapp.
