When we thump them in their own house, we send 10k fans onto their field (hey, its fairly similar to ours so it will feel natural) and force bobby boy to fine WV for their lack of control.

The would be Cyclone arrests, beatings, and molestations if that happened. Our Cy mascot had his arm broken at a Rutgers game one year after getting lippy with the home crowd.
 
So no one was hurt. The only real incident was WVU players swearing at ISU fans. WVU players exited the field safely and were in their locker room in about 90 seconds. Same protocol used against TCU.

And somehow the Big 12 fines Iowa State for not following safety protocol. Complete BS.

I couldn't tell from my seat but did a large number of CSC and law enforcement people form some type of shield around the WVU players who were on the sideline and attempt to lead them off the field? All I could see was some CSC people standing by the walls watching people jump over. Not sure why they were even there honestly.

Seems like at least trying to form a "shield" and helping to walk the visiting team to the exit would go a long ways towards meeting Bowelsby's "safety" expectations. Otherwise, the current setup is just a recipe for disaster--something bad WILL happen. And maybe some procedure was in place--I just couldn't see.

And BTW, I'm all for field rushes. I'm just not a believer in thinking we don't need to do anything because nothing bad has happened yet.

That would be the only thing I could think to do/improve is somehow surround the other team with event staff...but there are a lot of folks (players, coaches, staff, trainers) and that is probably easier said than done. I know it would be a 'buzzkill' but could also maybe have those staff create like a diagonal line from corner of the student section to the edge of the bence...funneling the students (in this case) to the field that way..but that would also mean the opposing team would have to haul butt up the ramp.

I know for basketball teams tend to huddle and start moving toward the tunnel when the inevitable is going to happen (and you are only really dealing with 5 on the court and the bench).
 
There were people lined up along the east side. Pretty much shoulder to shoulder along the student section and thinner along the rest.
 
As others have mentioned, the thing that irritates me isn't that ISU is getting fined $25k. It's that ISU gets an arbitrary fine for this but the Baylor athletic dept tries to sweep sexual assaults under the rug for years and the worst that the Big 12 did to them was withhold a few million dollars until they prove things are better but in the end they can get every penny back.

Big 12 leadership is a joke.

Due to health reasons I have been watching the games from the deck on the Jake. I sit near the east end, where the opposing team enters and exits. Holgerson was running out surrounded by state patrol people who were shoving people out of the way. Post game, I told our tailgate group that I would bet he would say something, and of course he did. The students and other fans also gathered on the grass near the WV player field exit. When the game ended, they collapsed the chain link fence and rushed the field. I love the enthusiasm, but the potential for a problem exists. Other than a few fans, and a couple WV players flipping the bird at each other I did not see any issues. Rewatched the game yesterday, and agree with Pollard, I think the WV players were off the field in 90 seconds. However, they were swimming upstream to get there.

Here’s some perspective that maybe puts it a little different. WV seems to be crazy about the FB security. Not that they are justified in their complaints but maybe they just are used to the draconian approach if their own school.
Iowa State fans should feel lucky their stadium security lets them have fun. If this was a WVU crowd, there'd have been a line of security encircling the playing surface. Each with an industrial sized can of pepper spray. And then if a person breaks through that line of defense, they get beaten by the state police in riot gear with clubs and are instantly arrested. And then they got like 8 security guards around the goal posts, too. Pepper spray in hand. So if you want to tear the goal posts down, you got like three layers of security to get through.

And it's like this because of the 2003 Virginia Tech game. It was pandemonium. They felt that just having state police with pepper spray wasn't sufficient enough, so now it's treated like a prison riot.

So Holgorsen compares the WVU field security to the ISU field security and he thinks overall security is less "professional" at ISU. Which, by all objective standards, has to be true. Because the WVU AD's is ******* batshit crazy.

And it probably costs WVU more than $25k in equipment and overtime pay to avoid paying the $25k fine. Which makes since because that's how everything in West Virginia seems to work. Ass backwards and illogically.

So take all of this into consideration and Holgorsen's comments are pretty understandable. That said, he should have just gone with the normal coachspeak nonsense in the media. Something like "It was a little wild, but if we do our job, they stay in the stands" or whatever. Then if he was genuinely concerned complain through the proper official channels.

Either way, this is all being laughably overblown and it amuses me.

The fine is a joke.

This will be unpopular....but.... I don't think we needed to rush the field on that one. We dominated a lesser opponent. Someday we need to act like we have been there before.

I was in section V and watched the whole event from afar....I remember thinking there were A LOT of drunks kids running through some miffed football players. I was a ways away, but I didn't see a single issue between a player and a fan.
