So enough people whined to Fareway to get ISU flags with a display? I see why hawkeye fans think we're super annoying.

Wasn't it Fareway that came out with a cereal called "Cyclone Crunch"? I never saw any "Hawkeye Crunch" or "Panther Crunch".

The kind of fan that chooses his allegiances based on what team is on the chip display at Fareway is not the kind of fan we should be aiming for.

ISU needs as many fans as we can get - this just in advertising works. I know this is an individual choice but you have to let business owners know this matters to you as a customer. If I were a business owner I would want my customers telling me what they don't like so I could fix it.

And BTW, HyVee is way more expensive than any other store. I just got back and was shocked how much different prices were than Super Target.

But is it fair to compare prices with a big box discount store? I think most know that Target would be cheaper than Hy-Vee given their size and mass distribution system. What might be less obvious is Hy-Vee's prices compared to Dahls, or to a lesser degree, Fareway.

One thing I've learned about doing price comparisons is that you can't just pick 3 or 4 things to compare. The grocery stores seem to stick to a certain percentage but the big box stores like Wal-Mart/Target are all over the map. Some things they'll be super cheap on and the next thing will be 30% more. If you buy a cart full of groceries it would be surprising if the difference is more than $5 between all of them. If you're that worried than use coupons.

If you really want cheap then go to Aldi's.

Fareway meat department is way overated. What is with all the high school kids handling the meat. They need more packaged meat. The entire store is questionable and in my opinion, a step back into the 60's with a minimal price difference. I've chosen to live in 2010 and go to grocery stores with 2010 ammeneties with reasonable 2010 prices. Also, I can carry or cart my stuff out tio the car.

Town of Iowa fans, YUCK!
I'm willing to pay more if a store supports the Cyclones.

People seem too question why so many Iowans that didn't go to Iowa or Iowa State support the Hawkeyes vs. the Cyclones. I think alot has to do with the availablilty of merchandise and how much Hawkeye stuff is displayed in stores, etc. Being a Cyclone fan is not a popular as being a Hawkeye fan. I try to balance this by spending my money with unbiased stores.

I agree. Now if kids went to that fairway they would only have the choice of Iowa ****. And fans start young so they're likely to stay hawkeye fans if they get a hawkeye shirt, football, ect at a young age.

This should be a big deal to people. ISU needs to create new fans each year and ones who don't end up going to ISU.

Instead of Iowa advertising less, maybe Iowa State needs to advertise more.

Go ahead and shop where you want, but you should know WHO, TV13 did a meat department bacteria test right after Fareway came to town. Tested all the existing grocery store, some gone now, and the test included HyVee. Bet you can't guess who had the cleanest meat dept, with the lowest bacteria count? Fareway did, as a clean fresh cut open meat counter beats prepackaged meats any day. All the Fareway competitors only handled prepackage meats back then, but notice how HyVee has added an open meat counter now. Prepackaged meats sit longer and bacteria grows in the package......That's why FAREWAY WON.

But a smart guy like you, that can carry his own groceries, should learn to also carry lots more money when you shop HyVee only.

I shop both chains, buy most everything at Fareway, cherry pick the HyVee hot specials and special things not stocked by Fareway, and specials at Cub's, but you're a smart guy, you know more than anyone else, including spelling.

So I go into the Fareway in South Ankeny tonight and they have a display with chips and Hawkeye crap all over it.

I have not known Fareway to be biased, as usually they have both ISU and Iowa stuff. I spend 600 a month at this Fareway and may be done.

What are others opinions of whether they are unbiased or not?

I will be glad when the Hy Vee goes in on the south side.

UPDATE: Thanks to Fareway manager Doug, they have taken down the Hawkeye display until they have Iowa State flags etc to go with it.

You need to get a life if this is bothering you. No offense but it makes us ISU fans look like freaking idiots if you are going to boycott a store b/c they have an Iowa display up and not and ISU one. In my mind, this totally makes us look like we have little brother syndrome that hawk fans already claim. Obviously some of us do....and you are one of them.
2nd, how big of a family do you have that you are spending $600 in groceries a month????

I advise you to start going to Sam's Club if you're spending 600 bucks a month on groceries.

You are one of the reasons I seldom read Fanatic. You are obviously a bitter, angry person not to mention a major smart ***. By the way, this is an opinion message board. I have plenty of money and will be glad to hire someone to help you carry your Fareway bargains from your car to your house, make that your apartment. Doubt you can afford a house. Oh, you better proof read your silly posts from now on. "Tested all the grocery store,"
