Explosions at Boston Marathon

Clicked on it anyway. It was so over the top it didn't register as being real to me. Felt like it was from the walking dead. Never sure things if photos like that should be published. I see they have at least blurred out his face now (that wasn't the case when I first looked at it).

NY times has the same picture on their front page, only they've cropped out the mangled portion of the leg. Not sure if that is responsible given that they didn't blur the guys face... I usually hold the NY times to a higher esteem.

Boston police commissioner says he believes 3rd blast at JFK Library is related to marathon explosions. Next briefing at 7 p.m.

looks like more recent stuff is saying they are treating and investigating it as if it were related, but they can't confirm that it is. I had first seen it reported as just a fire in their mechanical room.

Seems like cellphone's being shut off might be a logistical nightmare for the people in boston.

I'm sure the people who need to communicate all have radios in case of emergency anyway. I'd think it's mostly a nightmare for people who haven't had a chance to contact family members yet.

Apparently CNN's Wolf Blitzer is speculating that Anti-Tax groups may be behind this. If so, BEYOND irresponsible journalism to speculate like that.

When? I've got CNN on, only listening to half of the words, but I missed that speculation.
CNN has mentioned that there are various unconfirmed possibilities, but they've been extremely cautious with speculation. They were hesitant even to call the event a bombing.

What about calling in other suspicious packages? What about other emergencies, fires, medical problems, etc?

I don't know if he really said that or not, but I just can't see anti-tax nutso's going after a target that doesn't really represent "big government" in anyway.

Fox news is confirming that there is a "person of interest" in custody... nothing about Saudi national or anything like that, but someone in custody is the report.

many more reports of possible explosives. the newest one just reported on FOX was a "military style duffel bag" left at boston beth israel deaconess medical center that boston police are investigating.

Those guys are going to be chasing stuff all over the city for days.

that is terrifying if there are more devices waiting to be found. Prayers to all the investigators and first responders that they stay safe.

Sort of off topic, but you know what I like about CF? The fact that I can come on here and as a group information can be found and shared, and 99% of the commentary about incidents such as this is both appropriate and intelligent. Versus the typical comments at the end of any online news organization that devolve into political, racist, xenophobic, homophobic rants 5 comments in.

My thought as well. Over 1/3 of homes dont have landlines, and i bet thats higher in urban areas. They all can't dial 911 if they were to have a more 'typical' emergency.
