I was just noticing that KU’s first two football games will be on ESPN+ (1 home game and 1 away game). Not a big surprise as KU’s Tier 3 TV rights belong to ESPN3. I am not even sure how many KU FB fans will watch anyways, but it got me wondering:
Do you think ESPN+ will try to capitalize on KUs basketball brand and move 1 or more conference games to that network?
There is precedence for this, as Texas had 3 Big 12 home games air on the LHN last year (Tech, K St, and OK St).
Kansas State also signed a Tier 3 rights agreement with ESPN3 in 2017. K States home opener will be on ESPN3, and not ESPN+, but it will be interesting to see what happens how ESPN chooses to broadcast Kansas & Kansas State’s Week 3 games (Rutgers @ KU & UTSA & K St). My guess is that those games will end up on ESPN+.
I guess if nothing else just be aware of ESPN+ and their coverage of Big 12 games this year, as it may be the foundation of an eventual Big 12 Network.
