10-3 win for Kyven. He dominated the first period but then kind of shut down. Hopefully that isn't a conditioning issue. ISU up 22-12 with one match left and has secured the dual win.

Question from a stupid wrestling observer...should conditioning be a big concern at this point in the year? Especially for what I hope would be a better tournament team than duel team?

Overall not a great outing by the 'Clones but nothing panick worthy. Heavyweight really concerns me after today. I think we're gonna be pretty tough from 149-197 though.

Not a biggie at this point..They should be peaking by the Big 12's I would guess.

I was thinking the same...Let's just give ourselves the benefit of the doubt by saying it was Smith's first meet and Perna wrestled a defending national champ that at one time wrestled DI...

It isn't anything to be thrilled about but having a few guys gassing a bit in the second match of the first meet of the year isn't a big deal. If they are still doing it against Iowa in a month then I'll be worried.

We have that meet in Ames this year correct?

At the press conference Jackson said "There are hoops they have to jump through to get Earl on the mat". I wonder if there are eligibility issues? That's strange.

Is beating Grand View 22-18 a bad thing? That'd be like ISU coming up here and winning by four against Waldorf..

It was a lackluster showing by the team for sure. But as long as we're closer to form against Midland and WVU next week it it doesn't concern me (other than heavyweight). Goettl getting caught made the score closer than it should have been, A lot of guys made weight today for the first time since March and we also had a bunch of guys wrestling varsity for the first time.

Yeah I suppose you're right. Add to that we wrestled minus Hall and Beard. Not sure I agreed with the pin on Goettl, but what can you do? What happened to Cole Shafer? I was trying to come up with options at heavyweight and noticed he's not on the roster this year..He wrestled HW against Oklahoma last year i think.

Eh, the line-up seemed to be like the B squad for that dual.

Also, it's a helluva lot better than the start we had last year.

A few observations/opinions

i wouldn't look too closely into the final scores. Two tough opponents and it's only November.

Larson is still very raw at 125. But I see a ton of potential there. Hopefully hall will be ready to go soon.

Tanner has an explosive shot, that scramble was crazy, he will come out on top next time. He is still learning.

Mike and kyven performed to expectations. They know how to manage the match.

We need to find someone who doesn't give up bonus points at heavyweight.

Based on what I saw tonight I think that a dual lineup of

184: Weatherspoon
197: Beard
HWT: Gadson

might be something we see a few times this season.

Random thoughts: The problem I have with the "it's early in the season" argument for anything is that it applies to both teams. I'm excited to see Hall. Nicholson and Weatherspoon were fun to watch. Another few matches and Kroeschell and Gibbons were going to start some sort of a Step Brothers type brawl.

If we come out and have another lackluster performance next Friday I'll totally agree with you on that. We certainly didn't wrestle like a top ten team tonight. But one night doesn't make a season and I'm confident we'll look a lot better next week.
