I understand we may not win many games this year, but do you guys think we improved from the UNI game? If so, which positions?

Clearly improved on D. Better tackling I would say. O looked better at the end unless Iowa was already mentally picking up the trophy.

I think you know the answer to the bolded. You could clearly see a shift in defensive strategy after they went up 20 with seven minutes left. They went from playing tight with the receivers to playing 10 yards off and playing the safeties 20 yards deep. ISU is going to have to prove to teams that they are able to run the ball and/or throw the ball further than 10 yards down the field or it will be a miserable year to watch for you guys.

Defensively I thought they tackled fairly well. Can't teach size and I imagine there will be many games where the cornerbacks are playing on an island because the safeties have to provide run support.

Running was worse.
Playcalling was worse.
Offense enthusiasm was same.
O line was worse.
Linebackers were much better.
Tackling was better.
DE play was about the same.
Irving, George, Knott, and Morrisey looked good.
Watson had a fair game.
Kirby can kick it up a notch.
Arceo was very good. He made a tackle that ten others could not.

Okay, why not throw downfield every fifth play, Mess? Are we scared of our own shadow?

Week 1: Just barely lost to an FCS school
Week 2: BYE - so no sign of life from the O
Week 3: Just barely lost to Iowa (close to an FCS school)

I'm gonna call it a push

Every position on defense played significantly better, IMO. On offense Bundrage showed some big play ability at the end and I though the pass blocking was better. Run blocking was poor, and for that reason I can't really blame the running backs for a lot since they rarely had holes to run through.

So yes, I don think as a whole we were better than we were against UNI.

I thought run defense was pretty darn good. You have to consider that this team is going to be built for the Big 12 which is, as a whole, a lot different than what Iowa is going to look like. To be honest, had you told me they were going to beat it up the middle to the extent they did, I would have told you they would score at least 35. SO I think we held up nicely there. Their passing game got us a couple times when we blew a coverage and then misplayed a ball. So, the defense was good enough IMO. I thought the Dline did it's job 90% of the time and looked much better.

Offensively, we were shut out by, at best, the 3rd worst secondary we will face all year. That secondary is awful and there is no reason we weren't able to take advantage of it. The game plan should have been to force them into deep coverage and force the linebackers to sit back. Instead, they dictated the game by stuffing the running game.
