You know what the simularities are between DG and Austen Arnaud? The fans expect both of these guys to play perfectly with no mistakes. If they make one mistake, they are crusified and called out. It doesn't matter what they do, its those mistakes (few and far between for both players) that some of our fans continue to focus on. I'd like to know if they perform perfectly in everything they do, every day.

It doesn't matter what they do, its those mistakes (few and far between for both players) that some of our fans continue to focus on. I'd like to know if they perform perfectly in everything they do, every day.
This is the most frustrating part about this year's team. The bad thing is that it looks the same every time except the oppenent changes. I would like to see them start with 10 seconds instead of 6, so there is at least a chance for DG to give the ball up to someone. Against NU Edge had a wide open 3 with 4 seconds left and he gave the ball back to DG.
This goes on the coaches. It is obvious that what they are trying isn't working and they need to try something else.Some fans just won't appreciate Garrett until he is gone. I don't think I would trade him for any other Big 12 point guard. He can seemingly get any where he wants on the court. Have yet to see a defender who could keep him in front of them.
Next year will be interesting. Baylor proves the importance of a point guard. So does North Carolina. For ISU to have the success we all want, they will need to find someone to run the offense.

I agree, and I think alot of the criticism (including from myself) comes from things DG doesn't control. I think he's come a long way in just the last month or so, its actually kind of disappointing because it seems like he's just now becoming the type of player he should have been 3 years ago. I know its beating a dead horse but McD's style handcuffed him and forced him into a role he wasn't fit to play. He's much more free under FH, when he is allowed to just let the game come to him things just seem to look really easy for DG.
It sure looks like DG worked very hard in the off-season on his variety and range of shots. He looks so comfortable shooting the three, driving for a lay-up or pulling up in the lane and shooting a soft little jumper.
I think DG is in the same class as Rahshon Clark in terms of loyalty and what he's given to the school.
DG has really been a revelation this year. It actually has my excitement for next year a little diminished because I am WAY more worried about how the hell we'll replace him at the point.
It has been a joy to watch DG blossom with all of the praise (well deserved) that Hoiberg has given him this year.

Its amazing to me that two coach (CFH and McD) can look at a guy and see something so opposite.
This year is alot about confidence (something I'm not sure McDermott ever had in DG) and playing to a guys strengths. Kudos to Coach Fred for recognizing talent and putting a guy in a position to succeed.
And who was the last guy to play 4 years at Iowa State? Sullivan and Homan? Diante is in pretty select company.

I was very critical of his play in the past and wondered what the hell Fred was thinking when he was talking about how good DG was when he was hired.
Honestly, going into this year the aspect I was most excited about was that it was the last year I would have to watch DG.
A few months later, I am happily eating crow.
He is an all conference point guard this year from both a statistical standpoint and an importance standpoint. If you take DG away from this team we are "Iowa" bad. He has a great grasp of the offense and knows this team goes as he goes.

Last year I said DG stood for "Disaster Guard". Can't say that anymore. Kudos to him for sticking with it and buying into the new coaching staff. Kudos to fred for bringing out talent rather than bringing it down to meet some lamebrain MoValley system.
As a KU fan we have 3 highly rated guards, one of them is the #1 rated player in the country and DG is better than all of them. He proved it against KU. We couldn't guard him. KU's team is about 10 deep but we are just barely winning games because we don't have a guard that can control the game like DG does.
We are going to miss DG next year. He who should not be named wasted his talents in his first three years. It's amazing how much more confident he looks this year.
