Anybody else think the method used to swap the Jakes back was really, REALLY stupid? Would they really intentionally put a guy in the ocean in 15-20' seas if TV wasn't involved? Wait a week or two and swap them at the dock for the love of God. I love the show and obviously I was watching, but I hope that wasn't a "jump the shark" moment for me.

Jake Harris didn't seem to take a whole lot out of the swap as he was jumping down his brother's throat a hour after getting back on the CM. He seems like he's getting to be a bigger a-hole every season. I also wonder what the Hansen brothers are going to think of Jake Anderson's comments about how he is treated on the NW.

I hadn't heard about Nick Mavar losing a deckhand during salmon fishing. I can see where watching them dump his nephew overboard would be hard for him. From what he told of the story, the circumstances seemed odd. Did anybody else wonder about a suicide?

Good episode overall.

Yeah - I agree that some of the stuff going on seems rather contrived. I wonder how often they would just switch crew and really wonder how often they put a guy into the water for something like that? Last year when Jake's sister died, they put him in small boat to be picked up. I imagine the seas were too rough for that, but then I have to ask if they were too rough - why put them STRAIGHT into the water?

But I'm guessing with it being Phil's kid, it wasn't too unusual of a thing to do

Don't care to speculate on the deckhand over board. But it doesn't seem to take much. Seen a couple guys go overboard on the show over the years doing very mundane stuff. Nick did mention the tides were wicked. Maybe simply leaning over the rail and the boat bucked. Who knows. Too bad though - obviously Nick is devestated. He's the one genuine guy during each episode. Doesn't ham it up for the camera and just goes about his business.

Is this season shorter than past? Only 3 or 4 episodes for King crab?

That call was obviously made because everything has been done on that show and they're trying to add drama. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I wonder sometimes if alot of these things aren't nearly as dramatic in person, or when they happen - as they are after the producers are done with them? (probably a given they aren't)

I mean, throughout the show, they have steady, focused shots. Then all of a sudden it looks as if they're on a roller coaster. The music adds the drama obviously. Quick cut-aways adding the franticness of the situation (that may not really be there). Crafty editing.

What really made me wonder was the idea that Jake got sucked up under the boat, or close to it. "Where is he?!!?" Very tense situation.

But then he gets on the NW smiling and high fiving like it was a joy-ride?

Just gave me the impression it wasn't half the ordeal the show made it out to be.

i think this is the way it is done, and not done for TV.

I saw them do this in the marlin fishing reality show - same thing, survival suits and all. And it was in the north atlantic, so cold water as well.

A show that follows around the coast guard rescue swimmers up there would be absolutely awesome.

I think they've usually spent more time on King Crab season, but I'm sure they will devote at least 1 full episode, if not more to the circumstances surrounding Capt. Phil's death and some kind of tribute to him.

I shouldn't have speculated on Nick's deckhand either. I had a kid in my ear about that time and missed the part about the tides and the sea being rough. If that was the case then is wasn't very suspicious at all. I can't imagine how rough that must be on him. I agree that Nick seems to be about the most genuine guy on the whole show. I was good of Jake to go talk to him, even though that seemed a little contrived too.

It was a bit hard to follow, but I got the impression that the deckhand was out by himself on deck for a while (??) and that they didn't realize he was even missing. Said something about expecting him to be right there in the water waving, but there was no sign. They then "ran back" and never did find him.

I'm guessing that's where alot of his issues are. That nobody saw him and then couldn't even find him.

I'm sure you're right about Capt Phil. That makes me sick watching him during these episode, knowing what's coming. It's especially hard when you see him having it out with one of the kids (like the teaser last night for next week)

My favorite moment that they made seem ultra serious that wasn't at all was when that block of ice fell on the guy near the hydraulics a few years ago. They played it up big time, showed a piece of it leading up to the break, came back and it turns out all it was was a block of ice that fell on a guy, doing no damage...but they sure played that up like he was going to be paralyzed for the rest of his life...

I thought the whole Jake exchange was odd too, but maybe that's how they do it. They probably can't afford to waste the time running back and forth to the dock, so i guess this would be the quickest way. I also liked the exchange at the end of the show between the Time Bandit and the Wizard, lot's of bad blood there.

The captain of the Wizard seems to me like a first class ******* to me. The Hillstrands (Time Bandit) seem like guys you don't cross. Not sure if you seen the first episode this season but the Wizard captain asked one of the Time Bandits main guys when he wanted to move up to a real boat. He went back and told the Hillstrands and it got pretty ugly around the 55 gal barrel fire before they left to fish.

Definitely does seem like there is a lot of manufactured drama on the show that ends up being nothing when it's over. One of my favorite shows though, although I am not looking forward to Phil Harris passing away.

It seems like they are really racing through the crab season to dedicate a lot of episodes to Phil's death.
Also, I like how when Jake "disappeared" and they made a big deal out of it. I think it was obvious they lost sight of him for a second because he went AWAY from the boat and all the camera angles and editing made it seem bigger deal than it was. Right after that they talked about how smooth it went.

This is what I thought the whole time. To mee it seemed like both boats did not have him in their sight. Not that he went under.

I am guessing that it isn't that big of a deal or Phill would have never risked his son.

Gotta say I loved it when Jonathan shoved Keith and then told him off last night. Keith is a jack arse. He may have a bigger boat but others out fish him.

I agree with everyone saying Keith is a jerk! I can't stand him and loved it when Jonathan told him off. He thinks he can back stab people and it will be ok. It is sad to know that Phill is dead and those last shows are going to be tough to watch.
