Re: Dave Rice

he's getting out before the NCAA hits them with sanctions. Lateral at best move.

Re: Dave Rice

It could be questioned whether committing to UNLV was about winning. They were remarkably average this year.

Agreed but by joining a top 5 recruiting class (or whatever it ends up being), it would be easy for him to see them winning some games next year. Not that I believe that will happen, by the way. But it is feasible.

Re: Dave Rice

I think Rice takes the deal. Maybe something sanction like is about to come down on UNLV?

My initial reaction was why would he leave UNLV with all that talent stocked. And then I realized he's probably getting out before they get sanctions.

Re: Dave Rice

I suppose that's why you try not to burn any bridges with a recruit...

We didn't burn any bridges with him that I know about. One tweet about how mad a guy is at himself isn't going to change much.

This was my first thought, as well. Would you consider USF an upgrade over Rice's current situation at UNLV? Obviously Findley Prep and the Las Vegas allure has allowed him to pull in an amazing recruiting class for 2014-15. Why would he abandon that?! It makes little sense unless he has a feeling that an NCAA investigation is looming that could handicap the future of his current Rebel program (pun intended).

Yeah. The move to USF is head scratching. They have been terrible for a while now, and can't recruit players. They are in the AAC so they will get a chance to be successful in a weak conference. Does anyone know how much Rice currently earns at UNLV?

I have a branch of my company in Las Vegas, and on Vegas ESPN 1100, there is big news that Dave Rice is very strongly considering leaving UNLV for S. Florida. I guess it is a pretty substantial pay raise for him. I am guessing this could open up Vaughn???

UNLV Coach Rice offered USF job

According to multiple reports on twitter, Dave Rice has been offered the South Florida job. Don't want to distract from today's game, but this would obviously have implications with Rashad Vaughn. Travis Hines and Jeff Goodman have both tweeted about it.

Re: Dave Rice

Did Vaughn sign his LOI already? I guess the question I have is if UNLV can put a restriction on Vaughn not going to USF? If kids have signed with USF already and the scholarships are full is there anything Rice can do but discourage the new recruits to go look elsewhere since they would likely be released of their LOI as well?

This will be interesting. In the end, like most of you stated, there will either be a raise or a sanction.

Just found that Rice earns around 400k-500K a season at UNLV.

Re: Dave Rice

Next year is probably Rice's last chance. If he doesnt make the Tourney he is fired. So he may pull a McDermott amd get out the year before.
