I may be in the minority, but I still enjoy print sports media. I guess this should be no surprise, but, again, the Sunday Des Moines Register Sports section (Ames edition) did not have a single mention of the ISU women's game at Okie State. How disappointing - they're making their own bed.

Rather than focus on news, they ran a very long article on Megan Gustafson. However, the online edition had an article on page 4 with this headline:

"Scott leads ISU women to win over Oklahoma State"

Honestly I used to love the register and read it every day. I just can't now. It's become like a cable news network with just opinions on all sides writing stuff, ignoring stuff like the Iowa State womens game, and it costs money.

I watched the game so I am not sure what some intern who didn't even watch the game could add to what I had seen. Not like our assigned goof Randy P is going to bother with WBB. Actually any coverage is kinda scarce, here on CF, Ames Trib, Daily, anywhere. It's why I like the fact we have a WBB forum here, pretty much your best news resource is from info and articles linked by fans.

The problem with relying on Cyclones.com is, as you would expect, they only "report" from an extreme Cyclone viewpoint. They rarely even mention much about the other teams play or players. After watching the game, in addition to looking up Scotts conference stats, I was googling to see who the hell this Vivian Gray was. Than I was googling to see how the heck she ended up at a Div II school last year. She's a five-star recruit (looked it to!). Guessing it had something to do with wanting to play with her sister since they both transferred in. Interesting story, I thought.

BTW, I don't resent any Gustafson coverage. She's going to be the Big 10 player of the year, again, and is leading the nation in scoring while averaging a double/double. She's the Hawkeye Angie Welle and if we had won the recruiting for her she might have been our career scoring and rebounding leader.

ISU beats a top 20 team and gets a little corner of front page and 2/3's of front page is a large photo and article of a hawkeye women's player ridiculous.

That was their preplanned Sunday feature. Another thing, the Register and IC Press-Citizen are the same company. Lots of the hawk stuff is IC paper generated. They even share the same web link for their "Hawk Central".

Not fully defending the Register, it's a **** paper that relies more on shared stories versus original content generated in DM itself. Makes me ever so thankful that my old Star Tribune II do like a good newspaper) here is still an independent newspaper and hasn't been bought by some consolidating company and gone the USA Today route or worse.
