This could very well be our lineup soon and I would be happy about it.
125- Kysen
133- Frost
141- Ech
149- Paniro
157- Chittum
165- Euton
174- Gaitan
184- Bockman
197- CC
285- Yonger
Dresser definitely seemed to allude to this as a possibility. Wonder if another possible lineup is:
125- Meza
133- Terukina
141- Frost
149- Ech
157- Johnson
165- Euton
174- Gaitan
184- Bockman
197- CC
285- Yonger

Not sure I like the raw talent as much but I do like alleviating some weight concerns we have with Terukina and Frost and keeping Ech at his optimal weight.

I agree with this - have been worried about Frost‘s weight cut

I’m thinking Evan frost moves up to 41 as well. If he’s struggling this much with weight out of the gate after his AA year it might not be in the cards. Hope we have a decent 33 behind him

I am going with Meza the rest of the year, the kid is a gamer. I am sorry, but they need to a better option at 174. I think I was most disappointed in that match. Euton, gosh dang, I hope is OK, he is tough as hell.

It has to be Meza. I don't care about this or that or what if so and so... Meza went out and got it done. It's his spot.

He beat Iowa’s worst wrestler, borderline national qualifier. Do you really think Terukina wouldn’t have also won that match?

I’d love to see Meza against some better competition before we can say for sure. He has 1 more event right? CKLV?

I think Meza is consistent thus far, I think he embraces the challenge and is up for it. Now, ask yourself why KT didn't wrestle last night. I look forward to your answer, because I will bet you a $100 it will start with "I guess, or I think"

Let me clarify, I am not saying Meza is an AA, I am not saying he is going to win the big 12, but I will say this. Meza WANTS to be out there, Meza spends most his time staying on his diet, staying ready. Nobody has to be on him about any of that. From my view, if I was a HC, that is what I would want. I think the match was 2-0 KT beat him in the wrestle off. Again, you put all the other things I listed in there, I am going with the True Freshman. Last night told me a lot, Dresser believes in him too.

Post dual thoughts

125 - B+ gotta heavily consider going with Meza the rest of the year. He controlled the match, only going B+ because of the stall calls (one of which was bad and didn’t happen the rest of the night, weird).

133 - C - match went kind of how I expected. Frost gives up his legs a lot but Ayala is good enough to finish. After that slide by Frost put his head in the mat, his tank isn’t there with the cut and he’s usually a grinder.

141 - B+ - Block hit him with the double leg early but he gathered himself and wrestled rough the rest of the match. He gets a plus because of his post match interview talking about coaches from other teams calling him to transfer.

149 - B- - Got the only takedown of the match. Really tough way to lose. Going from up 3-1 to down 4-3 within seconds, 2 of which were not a result of Parco doing anything on the mat.

157 - A - No idea how to grade this one but he got 6 points. Whether or not he wins the match, who knows.

165 - B - Caliendo has proved to be the clear #2 at this weight and Euton battled very tough. Got in on the legs a couple of times. His injury looked like he could be out awhile, hope it’s not serious.

174 - D- - I don’t even want to comment much on this one. Just had nothing. Didn’t get pinned so doesn’t get an F.

184 - C- - Dresser said it himself post match. Can’t stand around and do nothing against a talent like Ferrari. Two years in a row Iowa sends a true freshman out at 184 and they control our 6th/7th year senior.

197 - C- - We all know the potential Carroll has but Buchanan just on another level right now. Was a rude awakening into folk, getting majored without scoring a point. Still curious what that match looks like in March.

285 - B - Weird how the stall calls disappeared when Keuter was avoiding action for the first 3 minutes. Yonger got a little tired late which is expected given first match and it’s at Carver. Keuter should stick to football.

Overall not a bad showing by any means. The difference was obviously 133/149 and Iowa going with different 174/184’s. They clearly knew what they had at those two weights against what we were putting out.

125- A. Great match from Meza, especially being a true freshman wrestling in Carver for the first time. I think I’d use his final date at Cliff Keen as a “prove you’re the guy” tournament. If he struggles there, redshirt him and hand it back to Kysen.

133- C+. Ayala is tough but Frost should not have lost that match. He needs to make sure his weight is under control if he wants to be a high AA at 133. Lots of season left and im not counting Evan out.

141- B+. Solid match by Redding over Block. Still don’t feel comfortable with this weight, curious to see what the team does here moving forward.

149- B. Tough to lose when you score the only takedown and give up 2 penalty points and 2 escapes. Anthony will learn from this. Cliff keen will be a real test for him. Beat some of the top guys there and I’m fine with him staying at 149. Poor showing and I think he needs to seriously consider dropping down.

157- N/A. Paniro looked solid in the first period, but Teemer clearly wasn’t right after the hammy pop. However, I think this was going to be a 4-1 match either way with a late 3rd period takedown

165- A-. Euton is tough and a gamer. I think he’s the guy at 165 if he’s healthy. Loved how he competed against a very good, national finalist contender in Carver.

174- F. Riggins isn’t the answer. I don’t care if he’s beating Tate in wrestle offs, Tate needs to be the guy at 174 in Vegas. Get MJ healthy and bump back up to challenge Tate whenever he’s back.

184- C. Ferrari is a stud, and probably the best 174/184 in Iowa’s room, but Bockman didn’t try much. I still think he’ll be fine, just needs to open it up.

197- C. First freshman match from CC against a very good wrestler. Part of the ups and downs Dresser has talked about from the room. Keep pushing for consistency throughout the year and he’s still an AA contender.

Hwt- B-. Kueter is fine, but Yonger should’ve majored him. Ran out of gas at the end, but he’s been out for a while. Get back into wrestling shape and he’s still one of the top 3 HWTs in the nation.

Overall, some good and some bad. Excited to see how the team performs in Vegas

What's impressed me so far about Meza (besides zero losses) is how he's stepped up in high pressure matches (at Grand View and at Iowa).

I agree 100%

After that slide by Frost put his head in the mat, his tank isn’t there with the cut and he’s usually a grinder. Ayla wrestled the best I have seen him this year. I think Frost needs some more matches as he has got his weight down now. Hoping he can turn the corner and again I agree with tall of this.

141 - B+ - Block hit him with the double leg early but he gathered himself and wrestled rough the rest of the match. He gets a plus because of his post match interview talking about coaches from other teams calling him to transfer. Happy for

He is a gamer, he is young and he is going to make mistakes. I like KT, and he has some big wins, but with Castillo coming in, who will more than likely RS, locks Meza in again next year. The RS Meza his true Junior year (if needed). I don't know, I think we have depth at 125.

To be clear, I’m not saying I don’t believe in Meza. He has impressed, but so has Terukina many times.

I want the guy who is going to score the most points at nationals to be out there. I’m not sure which guy that is, but Meza has not beaten anyone yet that shows me he can win a match at nationals.

The good news is, we are very likely to see where he stacks up in a few weeks assuming he gets the CKLV nod.

Kysen has to get matches as some point though, so maybe he goes to Vegas?
