The fact that the Big 12 occupies the spots 16-20 (and it's the only place where Big 12 teams are at)... everyone sees where this is going.
It's always been most likely that the Big 12 only gets the AQ in. And the way things have played out, it's probably deserved. Oklahoma State, K State, and Utah laying eggs this early in the season ruined much hope of getting two. We'll see if the unbeaten/1-loss teams of the Big 12 can stay that way.

Yeah, the AP is doing the Committee’s work, setting the B12 up to have the 2nd and 3rd best teams juuust outside of the top 12.
I don’t have a problem with 1-9, but I do have significant issues with 10-15. Michigan is not great…not top 10 anyway. Anyone who lost to them or USC should not be falling in right behind them.

B12 has been promoted by the media as the most entertaining conference all summer due to the balance in the league. Eventually Utah started being projected as the heavyweight with KState right below and then everybody else. 5 weeks into the season has blown that up with losses to both and Okie St falling apart too. It’s wide open, maybe BYU and ISU can hold up and become the media darling. Unless ISU can start scoring at a greater level, I could see them splitting their remaining games. The LB situation may catch up with them too. I hope they win out but looks like a 9-3 or 8-4 finish to me.

big 12 teams only get penalized for losses. they get no reward for wins. it is elitism in action. teams from the big 12 will be sinking in the rankings all season long.

Utah losing really reduced the chances of the Big XII getting 2 in. Basically ISU needs to go undefeated and lose in the conference championship game for that to happen now, and ISU would probably get left out.

It was just a little over a year ago, we lost the Ohio game after a rebuilding season. Things seemed fairly bleak. And what happened? The team finished 6-3 in the Big 12, retained a ton of key players and have started this year 4-0 and are ranked #16 and (as of now) have a better than 50% chance to win every game left on our schedule.

Enjoy this. We've been Iowa State fans long enough to know that this stuff isn't given.
