Cyclones.tv + Chrome + Chromecast = Pretty damn good

Had an opportunity to watch my first full-length live event using the combo of Cyclones.tv, Chrome and Chromecast. Giving this method an enthusiastic thumbs up. There were a few times the picture got a little choppy but it always corrected itself after a few seconds.

I have my home computer hooked up to my bedroom TV via HDMI, which works well for watching games if I want to watch them in bed. Also have hooked up my laptop to the living room TV via HDMI and it has worked well but don't enjoy the hassle. You can't beat the convenience this little $35 device (Chromecast) brings to the table.

Anyway, just thought a few of you might be interested. If you're on the fence about trying it I'd say go for it.

Admittedly, it's been a while since I tried, but how do you get cyclones.tv to stream thru chromecast? I thought it was only youtube and netflix? Got chromecast to do just this, but never had any luck.

First, you must use Chrome for your browser, if you aren't already. Sign in to Cyclones.tv, start the game, hit full screen, then click on the chromecast logo in the upper right of your browser next to the address bar. (You may have to download a chromecast plug-in for your browser. I can't remember, you might have to Google for it.) Once you take these steps, anything you can view on your computer's browser can be sent to your TV.

cyclones.tv quality and reliability have surpassed the games available on espn3 now, which should be the case given how much simpler it is, but still great to see it continue to improve.

I have pretty high end monitors for my work so I don't really even feel the need to run it out to a tv, just thankful I can catch a few extra ISU games out of state in great quality without having to look for ridiculous non-legit streams.

Now if we can only get rid of FSN for football games...hopefully FS2 develops and picks up those Big 12 games.

Yeah, I'm fine until I hit full screen. Then the box on the cast tab goes to a black box, and the full screen video plays on my laptop.

Hold on a second. This happened to me the first time but instead of hitting FULL SCREEN I was hitting the POP OUT button. Make SURE you are hitting FULL SCREEN and it should work.

I tried it today and it didn't work so well for me. It was very choppy then just froze. What's your setup? Wireless or wired network?

Chromecast only works wireless. No matter what your home setup is, it only uses a wireless connection, so that shouldn't be the issue.

I'm wondering if you were just having some problems with your ISP? Have you done a speedtest lately?

Duh, too many beers last night. No, the video was fine on my computer and phone. I've tried doing the same thing with Amazon Prime movies with no luck either.

Cyclones.tv looked great on Mediacom on TV. Pumped that I no longer have to use my HDMI for this and can record it on the DVR if necessary.

Note to the students though: Put down your phones when the game is going on, you can txt before game, at halftime, and after. Do something funny when you're on the video board though, the rest of us at home have to watch you and we don't wanna watch you typing on your cell phone. Thank you! :smile: Kudos to all of you college kids that put your phone away and acted like an idiot like you are supposed to for our entertainment!

Duh, too many beers last night. No, the video was fine on my computer and phone. I've tried doing the same thing with Amazon Prime movies with no luck either.

Did you try using the HDMI extension dongle? This helped some people, including me, who were having streaming issues. Something about it being too close to the TV interfering with the WIFI signal or something.

That's one of the complaints I've read, that you have to plug it in to A/C anyway so they might as well have included an option for people who wanted a wired internet connection as well.

I enjoy it for the nonconf Bball games as well as WBB and VB. You can sign up for 1 month to try it out. Think it's like $10.

Unless you have a good, fast connection, streaming tabs doesn't work so well.

When you chromecast with Netflix/Youtube, the chromecast device actually has the app, and it streams directly to the Chromecast and your laptop is just a remote.

But, if you're throwing a tab of random (Cyclones TV/Amazon Instant), now whats happening is it is streaming to your laptop AND then streaming to the Chromecast as well. Twice the load.

So you need a very fast connection and/or a dual channel wireless router to make tab casting work well. Chromecast really needs to speed up their app development to fix this.
