On the road...
Look better? Not a chance. They just swept the second worst team in the league, nothing to write home about.

Why would you really care about a cross town, different division team? I was a Frank Thomas fan for so long but couldnt be a Sox fan for 2 reasons: Hawk Harleson is easily one of the biggest DB ever and most Sox fans are phoney, fake fair weather fans.
The Big Skirt wasn't the greatest in the field, but he was one hell of a fearsome hitter
.991% career fielding percentage isnt awful....I was curious and looked it up.

ok, I was going with the theory of one error every 100 attempts but I like your research better than mine. I also liked him because he was a too sport athlete from Auburn, hoping for the next Bo Jackson.

Pitching will come via free agency in the upcoming years, they have so little actually on the books in following years that it is almost scary. Once Soriano's $$$ is off the books, it is something like less than 25 million in future contracts.

May have to add FA pitching next year. If Dempster and/or Garza is gone the rotation is suspect at best. You could probably get some pitching prospects back for them, but they may not be ready to go by 2013.

Agree....next year will be bad too. I dont think any top line free agents will come to Wrigleyville next year. Dumpster might come back after this year if traded but Volsted, Wood, Wells, Coleman, Malholm(if not traded this year) and Samardzija would be pretty sad for a rotation.

We signed Jorge Soler over the weekend. He is supposed to a really big talented outfield prospect. Theo and Jed are going to get a ton of talent if they deal Dempster, or Garza.

Also, it should be stated that Soriano has not had an error all year. You get sick of the "culture change" talk whenever a new Manager is brought in, but with Sori's improvement it may actually be happening. The shifts that Sveum empolys seem to be working.

It is a much better team to watch than last year at least.

Nope, not original. Just repeating what I hear from Cubs fans about 100 times every year for the past 25 years.

At this point, there are probably only a handful of Cub fans who say this and actually mean it. Its such an overblown stereotype anymore that most Cub fans, myself included, say it tongue in cheek. Never the less, there are defiantly a handful of idiots who cant sense sarcasm..

Since the hiring of Theo...maybe the statement should be updated.

"Just wait until 3-4 years." With the changes being made in Cubland and the infusion of lots of young talent, it would probably be more believable and accurate.

I'm fine with the Cubs playing the veterans and winning a few games for this month but after the trade deadline, I'd be ok if they didn't win another game. It took the Rays years of sucking to stock their farm system. The Cubs have more money to spend which should make it go a little faster but having the first pick is always better than having the 8th pick.

but they can't spend as whatever they want now on the draft as they have instituted spending limits there and in the international market.

Cubs are horrible. End of story.

I'm hoping this is a Cub-fan meltdown thread. Hey Hey what'dya say? Cubs are gonna suck today!

I think you have to have expectations in order to have a meltdown. And any Cub fan that had any sort of expectations this year clearly was crazy.

Which is why draft position will be more important than it once was. The days of the Cubs getting Mark Prior because the Twins couldn't afford to take him are over.

Thankfully my optimism was knocked out of my on the Spring Training trip. Low expectations for at least 3 more years.

We really aren't even watching a nice core of young players develop either. A couple of nice youngsters, but....whew....years from being competitive

Exactly. If this was a Brewers mid season review thread, meltdown would damn near be expected. The Cardinals are close to being in this category as well...
