The Chicago Cubs scratched left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly from his Saturday start due to soreness in his left shoulder.
Lilly will go for tests on Friday to Northwestern Hospital to determine the extent of the injury or soreness.
Lilly has been suffering with a left knee problem over the last three weeks.
The Cubs open a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.
Kevin Hart will fill in for Lilly on Saturday, according to a team source.

On to the Cubs. Look for pitcher Ryan Dempster to return to the rotation either next Thursday against the Astros at Wrigley or Friday against the Marlins in Florida. There was talk while the Cubs were in Philly that Dempster would be back as early as Sunday, but that won't happen.
Cubs people tell me today that Dempster had X-rays today on his broken right big toe, and that they turned up "excellent" results. Dempster will begin a running program tomorrow and take it through Sunday. Kevin Hart will pitch Sunday against the Reds, and the Cubs could simply slot Dempster into Hart's slot next Friday. But Thursday is still an option, depending on what manager Lou Piniella and pitching coach Larry Rothschild come up with. Bruce Miles

Cubs starter Ted Lilly was sent for an MRI on his left shoulder Friday after complaining of soreness.
The Cubs are expected to put Lilly on the disabled list in the next day or two, and he will be scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday.

Cubs recalled RHP Justin Berg from Triple-A Iowa.

Originally drafted by the Yankees in 2003, Berg was acquired for Matt Lawton in 2005. 25, Berg has pitched in 24 games in relief on the year, chalking up a 2.00 ERA in 36 innings, walking 19 and striking out 20. The ERA is nice, but the K/BB ratio is not. His success has come from limiting the number of hits allowed against him. If he gets off to a good start, he'll stick until Ted Lilly returns.

Would love to see Shark start a game or two.

The Cubs placed starting pitcher Ted Lilly on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of inflammation in the left shoulder.
And while he rests his shoulder, he'll undergo arthroscopic surgery on his sore knee, as well.
Wow the news just keeps getting better:jimlad:
